I don't think this type of humour is appropriate for these forums.

That's something that I find very ironic, people leave their own countries and absolutely refuse to adopt to any of the traditions and social rules of their new host countries yet charge them with racism and intolerence if they denounce their caste systems and their treatment of women as almost non entities by having them draped and hidden from view from head to toe. Before anyone comes down on me,these beliefs that these people have aren't based on religion but are completely social in nature and there are no steadfast rules to there existance as they are just traditions that have been handed down.I'm not denouncing it as such just stating it's ironic.

+1
Yep. My opinion? That's mostly what the Australian's message was about - with some ideas to drive it home.

Ok ... maybe this topic wasn't such a good idea
So ... Would a moderator please delete this thread? :|

I finally read a message that I could "edit" my original message - and clear it out. (one of those; "Duh" on my part - or a very senior moment  [take your pick])
Anyway - I hope all is Ok with folks now. :D

Tolerance

I am truly perplexed that so many of my friends are against another mosque being built in Sydney .
I think it should be the goal of every Australian to be tolerant.

Thus the Mosque should be allowed, in an effort to promote tolerance.

That is why I also propose that two nightclubs be opened next door to the mosque, thereby promoting tolerance from within the mosque.

We could call one of the clubs, which would be for gays, "The Turban Cowboy ", and the other a topless bar called "You Mecca Me Hot."

Next door should be a butcher shop that specializes in pork, and adjacent to that an open-pit barbeque pork restaurant, called " Iraq o' Ribs."

Across the street there could be a lingerie store called " Victoria Keeps Nothing Secret ", with sexy mannequins in the window modeling the goods.

Next door to the lingerie shop there would be room for an adult sex toy shop, "Koranal Knowledge ", its name in flashing neon lights, and on the other side a liquor store called "Morehammered."

All of this would encourage the Muslims to demonstrate the tolerance they demand of us, so the mosque problem would be solved
.

Thanks for the smile. Cool post.

Tolerance is the virtue of a man without conviction.

No tolerance to intolerance.

Cheers

The cry for tolerance is usually raised by the most intolerant amongst us. I can disagree with you (and your inaccurate belief that you deserve some extraordinary privilege or "right") and still be tolerant of our differences. I don't care that you face Mecca and bow down while you pray, but don't call me intolerant if I don't support you when your beliefs clash with my own.

Any person who uses their own religious "convictions" to harm others--whether their name is Timothy McVeigh or Mohammad Abdul--will have to answer to God for their actions.

+1 Screamin' Armadillo,

I remember a time when there was actual tolerance of others' religious beliefs, at least in parts of the country. In grade school as a kid, there were many beliefs and we were taught to be respectful of anyone else's choice, and we absolutely were.

The part of the first ammendment pertaining to religion, seems to have been turned on it's head.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;..."

WTF is so hard to understand about that?

These days, many religious pratices and beliefs are "outlawed" against the people's will, while at the same time global religious crap under the guise of "tolerance" is rammed down their throats. :x
