I'd like to see Kenny Chesney, Justin Bieber and Yngwie Malmsteen all on one stage.

A well-trained sniper would be able to take out at least two of them before they start running...

Gibbons killed. Slash was awesome except that one little flub in the middle, which he recovered nicely from. Mayer was awesome (and I'm not necessarily a fan; I neither fawn upon nor hate him...I have to take him performance-by-performance).

HOWEVER---

The real travesty is how no one gives Dusty any love whatsoever. I have seen ZZ Top at least a dozen times, and Joe Michael "Dusty" Hill NEVER gets the credit he deserves.

He's a better singer than Billy Gibbons (and I mean that in the best way possible--I love Billy and his vocals)...or at least he was until his inner ear problems/surgeries...now he and Billy are neck & neck for quality of vocals.

He creates that solid-but-melodic bed that allows BFG to run all over...

He has a mangled finger on his right hand that creates a distortion effect...if you can find a picture of it, you'll understand why he calls it "The Pleaser"...a-how-how-how-how, indeed!

He had a beard first...

The only demand he has ever made regarding his basses (with all the weird and wacky designs that BFG has thrown at John Bolin, Dean Z and others over the years) is that it have the same scale and neck profile as his old 50s Fender P-Bass...he's not a Diva.

He can out-Elvis Elvis...

..and he's from Dallas, Texas (not Hollywoooooo-oood).

Have mercy!

With all three on one stage, certainly the sniper could find a vantage point that would allow for at least 2 with one shot. One could only hope of course.

I haven't seen the concert you speak of, but I have heard a lot of live blues stuff with Mayer on the guitar. I think he's pretty good. A lot of people like to hate on him based on the style he played when he first came on the scene.
That being said, nothing I've ever heard him play blows my mind either; and there are many Hendrix tunes that blow my mind every time I hear them, whether I listen to them all the time or only occasionally.
I don't really listen to Mayer's music, but I do recognize that he's got talent. I just don't hear anything legendary or memorable coming from him.

@Skirt So Plain

I found this a refreshing article to read. You've echoed many of the feelings I've often felt about Mayer and how he is perceived. Living in the UK where he's less well known, I find it's easier to put someone on to him and see them enjoy him.

He isn't a big artist over here and really the people that enjoy him, (judging purely on my group of friends and musicians i know) are people who enjoy music. I mean, really enjoy music... not just whatever is topping the charts at the time.

This is just an assumption, but I'm guessing anyone on these forums falls into the category i described at the start of that paragraph. So I think it would be safe to say that it's not Mayers songwriting or playing ability that puts people off him but instead must be purely down to how he's perceived through the media in America. (Something we don't see much of over here in the UK)

HI Skirt!

Yes I have that concert by John Mayer. And I agree with you.
What I dig the most is Mayer´s tone on the Strats. It is unsurpassed.

Also, it´s hard to think of other fine players who also happen to
write excellent songs.
John Mayer has been very astute in shaping his career. I suspect many out there
envy him and feel resentful for his success.

I couldn´t care less about John Mayer being arrogant. If you´ve seen his documentary Room for Squares you can tell he was cocky right from the start. Good for him.
If you are such a great player, why should that also mean that you have to be nice and humble and considerate and likable? Screw that.

Mayer was pretty good there. :?

I assumed that in that company he'd just be there to hold the spare plectrums..

Whats wrong with Kenny  ? I wish justice beaver would die of the electric chair  .Whoes Yngwie Malmsteen? :?

Kenny sings flat, and I don't care to hear another song about what happened to him in the summer he turned seventeen or last summer or next summer or the summer he turned twenty-one or...just more corporate pop-rock that Nashville insists is "country" music. It all sounds like Def Leppard with a fiddle and a steel guitar. And I don't particularly like Def Leppard.

You wish Justine Beaver would "die of the electric chair"? Like one falling on him? Or do you mean "die in the electric chair"? Either way, it finishes with a good ending.

As for Yngwie--well, first, that makes me feel old that you don't know him and second that makes me feel jealous that you haven't suffered through his horrible crap (I wish I hadn't) and last it gives me hope that maybe (just maybe) the next generation won't support soulless, mechanical, arrogant jackasses that play like that.
