I recently read on Rolling Stone that there will be a Nevermind anniversary issue Cobain Jagaur.

Does anyone know anything about it? Fender doesn't seem to have a press release.

The bound strat style neck sounds very cool.

This is the guitar he used to do this to a bouncer:

Yep, that would be that guitar. I was always fascinated with that guitar when I was a teenager. I'm amazed that the guitar was never smashed.

The bouncer apparently didn't understand his job description. HR probably had a sit down with him.

Ehh not worth the price seeing as how I could buy a crappy pawn shop one and some dimarzio pafs like Kurt really did and string it with some Dean Markley LTHBs, an Ernie Ball White Strap, and use some Red Tortexs, get a DS1 and a Small Clone and still have money left over while still exactley copying his setup.

I would think that it is worth the price since it would be a collectible replica. There are cheaper ways to approximate his guitar for sure. I have a Jag that is close to what he had but not exact. It would be nice to have the bound neck. This guitar is the hardest to nail down when replicating. His other Fender guitars, not so much. His Mustangs and Strats can be copied easily.

he did, look at photos of his mic pick holder thing, obviously red turtles where you can make out a 5, well in terms of 91-92 era, later on he switched to oranges, than started using Fender Heavies right before his death. Only other strings he consitantly used were GHS Boomers too, In Utero era

Not really, all of his guitars were cheap, with cheap parts, like literally just like his clothing style, common crap that you can get at music stores and Pawn Shops, he salvaged parts, Ernie Bailey just worked with what he had. Plus theres the fact his guitars tone was basic garage understated rhythm set, its just the fact that 75% of Nirvana's music was recorded and played with some cheap distortion and a solid chorus pedal, which created his sound. Now In Utero era, when he had more cash, he added a SansAmp for his anti solo rants and a Polychorus. Really idk why people would even want to sound like Kurt, he wasent a good guitar player for his experience, all of his music is brilliant song writing and simplicity wise, the guitar parts are cheezy ripoffs with a crappy melody copying solo cleaned up by thick deep chorus and ear bleeding distortion. Pretty much a slowed down Pixies and Bad Brains combo.

Definitely overpriced, but these guitars are desinged more for collectors than they are for players, anyay.

This one is a steal compared to that Eddie Van Halen Frankenstrat replica that came out a few years back. $25,000 for a a replica of a guitar that cost it's original owner roughly $200! Sheesh!

http://www.electricguitarplanet.com/200 ... n-zzounds/

Never really understood the concept of playing a signature model -- I'd rather not be known for playing a copycat model of some of some famous person's guitar.

I would hardly say that his Jag was made from cheap parts, his other guitars - probably. It was bought already modified and I'm sure Earnie Bailey made some additional mods to make it play better.

I'm not going to get into his technical abilities because all guitarists are different and some are able to reach more people than others. To me that's the most important part - not how many notes you can cram into a phrase.

If you were to mod an existing Jag to look like Kurt Cobain's in the end the price would be close to what you would spend on the replica.

MIJ Jags sell around $700-$800
replace the neck with a bound neck + reshape the headstock = $500-$600
Custom toggle plate $40
Black chrome TOM bridge $45
DiMazrio Super Distortion + DiMarzio PAF = $150
Swap out electronics $35

Any custom guitar is going to be in this price range.

Personally, for buying something that is collectible this is a good price.

I'm also not saying that I want to sound like Kurt with my own music but Nirvana was certainly influence and taught me how to play guitar. To me, owning this guitar would be a nice homage.

I actually agree with you.... That's the best description of his tone I've seen. That being said, I f***ing love the polychorus. You can do so much cool s*** with that thing, great noise pedal.

Seems a tad overpriced for what it is.. any news on whether it will be a low number run or just out for a period of time?
