Real-world, practical one-on-one experience for supporters with with those "persecuted" they care so highly about, is certainly valuable for those with strong opinions.

A life-path way of gaining cosmic wisdom and true human understanding, of the causes and groups they support.

After all, the earnest, caring, loving letter-writers and protest marchers would not wish to be proven as mere hypocrites, when given the opportunity to directly interact with those they so deeply embrace from afar.
