As in topic: Ampeg BA 108 or Behringer ULTRABASS BXL450?

Which one sounds less like practice amp? I need something small, versatile but not sounding like 10W crap.

I'd steer clear of Behringer due to reliability issues anyway but besides that that Ampeg has had many years in pioneering bass techology with a reliable product.

this ain't part of the topic but first i'd like to say behringer's are not un reliable! i have a behringer pedal and it works really great. i've had it for about 1 year and a bit, not a problem with it. i just thought i'd say that befre people start giving behringer $@!& purely cause one person said it.

I've worked with many bass players over the years who swear by them. Behringer amps just aren't built for the long haul. Cool ads though. I let the magic smoke out of one at my local GC. The guy sales guy said they get a lot of returns on Behringer gear.

I have to say that all the music stores around here save for one that sells Jay Turser and the like, have stopped bringing in Behringer gear because of all the returns they were getting it wasn't worth their time and bother.I'm not dissing them just stating a simple fact.I hope that anyone who hasn't had any trouble Behringer gear continues to get good service from it.

So far I think I have to change topic to: "What to choose - Ampeg amp or crap?" hehehehe
Yeah, i've heard a lot of bad things about Behringer stuff, althou I wanted yet another proof for that. As you say, low price, some fancy suff but it breaks too fast. I need twice that money to get Ampeg BA110. I found comparison of BA108 and BA110 and the difference is quite noticeable. BA108 sounds like total practice amp, like bigger laptop speakers, and BA110 sounds more like big amp. Smaller gives more punch but sounds plastic. Anyone want to get rid of own BA110 for 2/3 stock price? Hahahaha. And thanks for free shipment to Europe, in advance!

Edit: Sorry but it's not my fault Leo's amps, even small, are way too expensive to get them at that price range and reasonable power. I don't need amp for playing louder than drums, I play smooth jazz, so drums are soft. And I play at small room (16 x 14 feet), but my stereo I play through is not what it should be. My amp is 40W but it hasn't proper sounding range and this won't deliver low tones. And speakers are too weak for bass.

To tell the truth, I dream not about Ampeg, Warwick, Hartke, or any other amp but Fender Bassman... Tweed... perfect tone (I'm a vintage guy)

I would recommend the Ampeg, too, for both reliability and sound quality reasons.

However, when my drummer and I were constructing our studio (on the cheap), we purchased four Behringer 4-channel preamps/mixer units. They were only $75 each (on sale, regular price was $100), and had four individual in/out channels (as opposed to many of the cheaper preamps that would have four inputs but only one or two outputs). They also had three band eq, pre- and post-gain control and other built in controls; for the money, they were the best we could get (and much, much cheaper than a 16-channel preamp/mixer). Later, we ended up purchasing a fifth so the drummer could put more mics on his drums and do a pre-mix before the recorder.

The sound quality was excellent--not as great as an tube preamp console, but really nice and clear, not brittle or harsh as some solid state preamps can be.

Five years later, out of five cheap mixers, we have had one fail...and it only failed on one channel. That was pretty good in my book.
