Clothes don't make a person or automatically merit respect. I've met far more a-holes wearing suits and ties than ones in jeans over my life.

If I walk in a store and one salesman is wearing a tie and another has a polo/golf style shirt I automatically veer away from the tie. Too often, a person in a tie assumes some "self importance" or arrogance if you will, that I don't want to deal with.

Concentrate on the person, not the clothes, or the piercings, or the hair....we're all different on the inside so why should the outside be different?

I'm not saying that folks don't have the right to dress anyway they want to. It's just that some things in life demand a little different level of respect. And the distinct PRIVELAGE of being invited to perform in The ROYAL ALBERT HALL is definitely one of those times no mater ho you are or how BIG you may be. :)

Um the Royal Albert Hall is like Eric Claptons living room, and he has played there enough over the years that he can wear anything he wants. I am guessing Joe nor Jeff were too upset or even though about what the other was wearing!

And No offense, but if Joe was upset, well when he achieves a quarter of what EC or JB for that matter, then he can get his panties in a wad...again I don't think Joe cared one way or the other...He was probably happy EC and JB graced his stage with their presence!

One band I was in was called Ace Demolition and we could get away dressing like a construction crew but in a couple of other bands where we played dinner club venues we would wear black dress pants and white shirts but where I did almost all the banter with the audience I wore a white tuxedo shirt.
If/when I go back gigging I'll wear something that's just loud enough so I won't get mistaken for just another audience member or roadie.

Super tight leather or pleather paints and a pirate shirt. Oh yea, high tops.

We once wore pirate shirts around "1961" and got the big horse laugh from our friends. Evidently they dident understand, that in a little while Paul Revere and the raiders would corner the market on them. 8)

I would go with whatever the people who will be there will be wearing, or maybe a slight exaggeration of that. Unless the band is expected to be flamboyant, then it's a whole other ballgame.

All I can say is that SHORTS are the one piece of clothing that are never acceptable on stage. Even if you're playing an outdoor gig in the middle of summer, you should not be wearing shorts. The only one who can get away with it is the drummer - because he's behind the kit and no one sees his legs.

Who no shorts? Because shorts are the most un-bandlike thing you can wear. It looks like some dummy from the crowd got up there and picked up an instrument.

What a great obersvation, un-bandlike? I guess I was a "dummy" last Friday at a great outdoor gig in shorts and my Donald Driver #80 jersey. Oh wait, I guess we were all "dummies"..better send some apologies to the crowd that was having fun, and the happy owner who said it was a "great" night, and the bartenders that said they made good tips.

Whatever

Yea, I'm gonna have to disagree with that as well. We play poolside at Major Casinos. It's also 110 degrees out. You'd actually look more silly NOT wearing shorts considering everyone there is in shorts and bikinis.

In the genre I play (Reggae), it's very common to see musicians wearing shorts. Especially West Coast type Reggae bands.

Neon pink thong? Maybe.
But I don't respect anybody who wears a NASCAR cap, no matter who the driver is... :P

Neon Pink? Feather Boa? Pirate Shirt? Plastic Pants? :?

Maybe I shouldn't have asked

Even when I was young and vital in my first few bands I didn't wear that stuff! I've settled on black jeans and a sparkly grey jacket..

Now then, sleeves up or down? Dark glasses? Forgot what a trial life was in rock n roll..
