I love Clapton but damn. I just you tubed up some Joe Bonamassa. It was the Royal Albert gig Featuring Eric Clapton JB shows up in a suit. Clapton shows up in old jeans with holes in them. I Think you shold dress for the occasion. The Albert is as cool as it gets. The crowd is dressed fit to kill and I think it's a mater of respect for the performers to fallow suit with appropriate clothing. A Nice suit , or Evan a tux wouldn't have been to much. Maybe I'm old and out of touch. I don't know. 8)

That's kinda funny/strange, because in the 80's/early 90's Slowhand used to dress in very nice suits all the time.

He's really relaxed over the last few years.

Super tight leather or pleather paints and a pirate shirt. Oh yea, high tops.

8) Eric has earned the privilege. Yes it is a formal venue but Joe wears suits alot. Its part of his image just like his sunglasses on stage. Besides who wants to dress in a suit for a 15 minute jam...(well I would if it got me a chance to jam with either one of them...)

lol..

A fitting thread for me right now.. I'm playing my first gig in about 4 years on the 19th. Only a pub show, but I was wondering myself what to wear. A slightly stocky 50 year old with all my own hair - playing organ, guitar and some lead vocals.. mainly electric blues and a few Floyd tracks.. any ideas? :?

During the sixties, in my part of the world, nobody would dream of going on stage wearing jeans. From around '68 is when it all changed here.

If you don't like leather and pirate shirts, allow me to recommend thigh high white feather leggings and a snakeskin loincloth. Black sleeveless T, at least 2 sizes to small (gotta show that belly button to the ladies). Oh, and don't buy the T-shirt sleeveless, get it normal and cut the sleeves off with a dull pair of scissors along with the neck.
Dude!! you're getting so much sex!!

Seriously? He's Eric Clapton, he could wear a neon thong and Jeff Gordon racing hat and you still have to respect the man.

Clothes don't make a person or automatically merit respect. I've met far more a-holes wearing suits and ties than ones in jeans over my life.

If I walk in a store and one salesman is wearing a tie and another has a polo/golf style shirt I automatically veer away from the tie. Too often, a person in a tie assumes some "self importance" or arrogance if you will, that I don't want to deal with.

Concentrate on the person, not the clothes, or the piercings, or the hair....we're all different on the inside so why should the outside be different?

That's what I remember too.

In these days and times, it's all what you (or your people) negotiate in yer contract.

If ya don't have "people" or a contract, it's still good to look like an entertainer, IMO.
