Kenny Wayne Shepherd - How I Go: Awesome blues album, solid guitar. KWS has outdone himself again! Album has an awesome rock opening with "Never Lookin' Back" and from there on it just gets better and better. His cover of "Yer Blues" is an awesome cover too

Bush - The Sound of Winter: Newest single from Bush, amazing as usual. I would expect nothing less from Gavin and the guys. Their new album Sea of Memories comes out this September.

Radiohead - The King of Limbs: I am a big Radiohead fan. Have all their albums from Pabolo Honey to In Rainbows. This is an album I won't be adding anytime soon. It was just too techno for me. The single off the album "Lotus Flower" is average at best. But hey that's just my opinion. Maybe you hardcore Radiohead fans will like it.

I agree on King of Limbs. I'm not a big Radiohead head, but I have OK Computer, Kid A and The Bends. I don't understand why bands work hard to create a particular musical style, cultivate fans who like that style, then change their musical direction which alienates a good portion of the fans they worked so hard to attract.

it's beyond me steve, trying to appeal to the younger gen maybe. Since they see many bands are into that whole beat/techno stuff I guess they decided to change their sound

I don't like many of radiohead's more recent outing either, but I'm certainly not going to criticise them for changing musical direction, if anything I commend them for doing so. They couldn't just make The Bends over and over again. Though saying that, I liked them much better as angry young men. I enjoyed Lotus Flower though.

It's not just Radiohead. There are a lot bands out there today who made two albums and then veered off into another direction. Certainly the Beatles changed over a five year period, but it was a gradual change and they were able to take most of their audience with them through their growth. I think there is a difference between growing musically and careening into different directions.

Steely Dan fans may remember when Becker and Fagen hinted at doing a Country record . . . but it's hard to tell when they're serious and when thy're just having fun with us.

I don't see a problem with that. Say you're 18 years old an your first album comes out, a year and a half passes before your second, after which you take some time off, by the time your making your third or fourth album it could be 3 or 4 years after your first came out, and you probably won't listen to the same kind of music as you did then.
I know I was listening to very different music three or four years ago.

Techno--soul-less drivel that sucks the life force out of all true music aficionados.

I would rather lose a toenail than listen to that crap, no matter who is making it.

I like a band that grows and changes, even if it's somewhat of an extreme change...I may not always like the difference, but if they're being real and following their muse, I respect them.*

*This does not apply to any band that goes techno. :P

My last comment on this topic: What about their fans, the people that made them successful? I get a lot of music from amazon.com and many of the reviews I've read reflect the growing frustration of people buying new albums from bands they thought they knew. I used to think if I bought a new disk of mp3 album from a band I liked that I would be getting more of the same only better, not something much, much different. I tread (and spend) more carefully these days.

+1 on the Techno
