Hello,
A guy is selling "Super Fender Japan '66 Kurt Cobain Reissue Jaguar" on eBay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Super-Fender-Japan- ... 3a68c69144

I believe the model number of the guitar is HJG-66KC VI

Does anyone know the history of this guitar?

Is it available anywhere else for purchase?

What was/is the normal list price?

His price $2230 seems way high to me, but I am not sure if I have any other options. For this price, I could probably find a vintage 66 and drop DiMarzio pickups in it.

Thanks in advance.

That guitar has nothing to do with Kurt Cobain. I don't believe there was ever any type of Jaguar named after or promoted under his name.

I'm no expert on Jaguars, but several things (besides the pickups) look wrong on that guitar. If you don't an answer here, you might try to re-post your question on the "Fender-Other Guitars" section ofthe Forum.

I'm reasonably sure that you'll get some kind of answer here, though...

Welcome to the Forum, by the way.

I am pretty sure that the guitar is the Japan Cobain guitar as explained here:
http://www.fenderjaguar.net/reissue.htm

HJG-66KC VI - Kurt Cobain Jaguar. P.U:DIMARZIO PAF(front), SUPER DISTORTION(rear) CONTROL: 2VOL 1TONE PRESET VOL&TONE 3POINT TOGGLE SW

What looks wrong to you?

Thanks.

I've never heard of this guitar either, but Fender Japan seems to do their own thing. I looked on the FJ site and found that new Jaguars run from ¥189,000 (or about $2,410) for the hollow-body (?!) Jag down to ¥99,750 ($1,272) for an HB-equipped Jaguar. Tack on another $120 to ship and I don't see the attraction. I think you could do better here.

Their Jazz master (sic) model JM66B in CAR with the block fret markers is still on my long gear lust list.

Source: $1 = ¥.01275 as of 8/7 per OANDA.com

Thanks. I was thinking I'd be a buyer around $1500, so that makes sense to me. The one thing that looks wrong to me is that the neck PUP is pretty far away from the neck. I am not sure why, so it has me questioning the quality.

I don't know why I feel a disturbance in the force, but I wouldrun this by the Jaguar enthusiasts on the "Other Guitars" section.

It may just be the chorizo I ate with lunch.

I thought it was a '66 Mustang he played, then traded for a Univox copy of Mosrites' High Flyer.......
I'll have to check out "K/C Journals" from my local library again......it has entries from his last 5 years of keeping his daily diary including notes on guitar purchases, sales, swaps, etc.....fascinating read.

Has his exact setup he used on his Jag from '91 to like '93, bet it doesnt come with Dean Markley LTHB strings though. Seems great quality, needs a little more ductape to be tru to his design

I love how you copied that exact ethic and mantra from Kurt, ironically, but yeah Courtney capitalizing on everything Kurt ever did is pretty pathetic, but then again Kurt did kinda write as though someone would later read that crap, just the impression i got from a few excerpts, prolly couldnt get past page five if i tried
