Criminal charges?
I figure the one guitar can be picked up by myself and then displayed proudly on my wall as the very expensive guitar I smashed at a Guitar Center. 8)

While your initial reaction from might bring you pleasure; your remorse and chagrin would haunt you the rest of your life after you squandered the rest of your fortune. Becoming wealthy through hard work and sacrifice builds an appreciation for the "things" you earn. Winning the lottery thru dumb luck and being ignorant to the management of wealth is a recipe for personal disaster. (He says as he heads out the door to buy his weekly lotto tickets...)

Smashing an instrument is inviting bad karma.

You are denying something of value to someone who would cherish it, dishonouring the makers, dishonouring the materials which went into it.

first i would hire an accountant. then i would take care of my family and friends. after that i would buy some land in the country and build a nice modest home.
i think i would stay at both jobs but i'd have a completely differnt' attitude in a good way. buy my own truck and trailer to help with deliveries and such. i'd still expect a pay check though.
i could never smash a guitar but i don't have a problem with other folks doing it.

When you read this, you will realize the jackpot is going to have to be a billion dollars, but while we're dreaming...
After settling up with the government, I would immediately put half of whatever is left into an annuity of some sort (if there are any safe ones left!).

I would pay off my house and give it to the Lady Armadillo's Tia y Tio (aunt and uncle), so they would have a nice place in town (big enough to breathe but small enough to take care of at their advanced age).

Set up a medium-sized trust fund for the Armadillo Child...but put certain restrictions stating that she'll have to stay busy in something positive or constructive...I recommend volunteer work. Any extremely poor choices (drugs, etc) will result in removal of the funds until clean and sober.

Pay off my parents place. Buy my brother a motorcycle, set up small trust funds for all the nieces and nephews...not so big that they don't have to work, just big enough so they don't have to sweat every move they make; a "cushion" so to speak.

Take the Lady Armadillo on a long trip to Europe and then the Pacific Islands and then Australia and New Zealand. Buy her any vehicle she wants.

I would get a classic Land Yacht car, like a '59 Cadillac convertible (or some such).

Pay off my drummer's house, and help him retire.
Likewise for my (former) bass player who had a stroke.

Build a nice but normal house (not a million square feet or anything) near Lake Travis in Austin. Build a music complex (studio, rehearsal, and indoor/outdoor performance venue large enough to handle around 250 people; any more than that and you can't contrl who shows up) near the house, and equip it with everything a band would need.

Do volunteer work for the rest of my life.

...and I would have the Fender Custom Shop build two sets of matching Strats, Teles and '51 P-basses, have two copies of my "perfect" amp (I have already designed it) built, and
Finish my pedalboard.

I would do something like that. More like a Tele, Strat, Jaguar, Mustang, and a bass painted all identically with the same Candy Cola Red Burst into Black.

Any guitar that's in the $10,000 + range is most like a one off instrument that is the work of one extremely skilled luthier. As I stated before to smash an instrument made with such precision and attention to detail is to devalue the work of the luthier and is really a slap in the face to him/her.No matter how much money one has,to smash a wonderful instrument is wasteful, stupid and absolutely indefenseable.I don't buy into the "It's my property,I can do what I want with it ." argument either. As far as I'm concerned we are just temporary custodians of instruments that if treated properly will last hundreds of years and bring enjoyment to dozens of musicians. To destroy a fine instrument is to deprive dozens of prospective custodians the joy of playing/listening to it.

I like the thinking of Peter Jones, one of the business men on the UK Dragons Den, admittedly he has lots of cash to do this with but still. To make sure his kids work, once they work their way to a job that pays £50k a year the trust fund will pay them out double, if they go into charity work or "moral" jobs such as nursing or teacher for example it will pay them out triple or more.

Nice way of doing it I think and stops his kids just inheriting a massive lump sum.

I think I'm with everyone about the paying off the house, helping out family, building a studio, etc. I live in Canada where if you win the lottery it is TAX FREE! We never see those 100 million dollar jackpots though. I think it peaked around 54 million.
