In a previous post re: "Chuck Berry Analysis Help!", I opined that "my personal selection as the greatest rock-and-roll tune of all time" was Chuck Berry's Johnny B Goode.

While this is indeed a metaphysical fact beyond repute, I feel it is imperative to recognize that the Allman Brothers Band's "Blue Sky" is the actual greatest song of all time.

I appreciate the opportunity to amend the record. Thank you for your consideration.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.

I have always loved Blue Sky,there's a live cut on one of the albums from a 1971 concert at Stoneybrook I think it was, also on that CD is a live version of Midnight Rider, all of course with Duane Allman, shortly before he was gone from us.

Bob, learning and growing are a major part of life. I will try to help you on that journey by applauding you on your choice for yourself of the greatest song and while everyone has a greatest song I will agree "Blue Sky" is one of the greats. FYI "my personal selection as the greatest rock-and-roll tune of all time" was Chuck Berry's Johnny B Goode." is a good guess. the actual answer to that age old question is "Lucille" by Little Richard Penniman. Please listen to them back to back compare the riffage and see the light that lit the fuse for the house of TNT called Rock and Roll. Appreciated, amended, considered and returned.

Little Richard is my favorite from the 50's. So many were influenced by him, as much as Chuck Berry, and others. 8) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aLN9igZK ... re=related

+1,000,000 on "Blue Sky."

That one was definitely Duane Allman and Dicky Betts at their best. Can't solo on that one, because it takes two guitars to make it sound right, but I can play the rhythm part along with the recording, as well as some of the lead. Closest thing to playing along with Duane and Dicky. Definitely my kinda thang!!

Howard Duane Allman 1946-1971 "Gone Too Soon." R.I.P.

Great shot, Reb, but have you checked this site out?? http://www.duaneallman.com/

Lots of great pics on there, and some jam as well. I spent a whole afternoon exploring this. Well worth a look-see, if you haven't already seen it.

P.S. I like the pic that's shot in the studio about 3 AM or something, with him holding his axe and yawning!! It's on that site.

Twelvebar, Race With the Devil , although I couldn't confirm the date, was a charted hit in 1956, chronologically before, Little Richards "Lucille" 1957, and, Chuck Berry's "Johnny B. Good" 1958. Don't remember hearing it in the mix. If I'm not exactly right, perhaps it is another artist that blew the first set of doors open. Little Richard still gets my vote for Americas rock and roll Rushmore. "Vincent", "Berry", ?

Hmm.. i would have to say:

"Turner"--Ike invented R&R guitar!!(Brenston may have been the bandleader on the title of the track, but the band was Ike Turner and the Rhythm Kings, Ike made the magic happen.)
"Vincent"
"Berry"
"Holly"
Those are the ones for Mount Rockmore.

All my personal opinion of coarse, so you should all treat it like Gospel!!

Ike Turner is a choice again but not enough popularity for a place in the rock, I'm, going with Vincent, Little Richard, Elvis and Berry. Buddy Holly would have to be an alternate in case one of the rock heads came loose IMHO YMMV
