I like a used Epiphone dot in the $300 range, perhaps less.

I don't make statement lightly. I shopped with cash in hand for an Epiphone Casino for a year, with a memory of my early 60s ES-330 in my head.

Everyone was stiff, lifeless acoustically, had junk electronics so casually installed that on 2 of them the pots spun around in their holes, and had various fit and finish issues. Same goes for the Sheratons and "Kats" I've played.

It is my opinion that Eps that sell new for around 600 dollars are made to sell to a market that will buy a guitar for it's visual appeal. Not one that I've played was a real, working guitar, and I would never buy an instrument that needed new electronics straight off the rack.

But if you found one you like, good for you. In that price range, the PRS SE line is a much better bunch of guitars. In the past few years I've bought two SEs and no Epiphones. If you've had better luck, congrats.

I bought an Epi LP Standard, and for the money, It's a pretty decent Guitar. I put GFS mean 90's in it and I think it's a great practice Guitar. If I was playing gigs, I would spend more and get a Gibson, But these days I don't have an extra 2k laying around. The Tele is a great choice also. I played a blacktop but it didn't do it for me. I'm not fond of Fenders humbuckers, So those would have to go. But like an earlier poster said, don't look at the name, just play a lot of guitars you can afford, and you might pick one that you never even considered. Happy Huntin' Negative Creep. 8)

Every low-buck Epi I've played was junk. Do yourself a favor... If you want single-coils, buy the Tele. If you want humbuckers for cheap, don't buy that Epiphone crap: do what I did and find yourself a lightly used PRS SE Singlecut. You can find them all over for around $350 with one of the nicest gig bags ever, and they will crush and do a little dance on a Epi LP.
Obviously not low buck, its about $499 and from the specs and reviews it seems pretty adequate

As the owner of 6 Epis and one being a Traditional Pro I can state unequivocally that none of them are junk,As a matter of fact the build quality of Epiphones in a lot of cases lately surpasses a lot of Gibsons.

The Trad Pro is probably the most versatile guitar that Gibson/Epiphone makes now because of the coil tap.The single coil function isn't Stratlike and won't give you the quack of a Strat as it is more like a cross between a Jag and Mustang. The neck is chunkier than a Tele neck but isn't uncomfortable and the humbuckers sound so much like PAFs that it's uncanny.

I also own a Tele and I can say that they are fabulous guitars in their own right-but you already know that -right.For having the versatility of single coils and humbuckers in one guitar I'd be swayed more towards the Trad. Pro for the simple fact that they are only making a limited run of them and then they're gone-that's if what Epi says is true.So whereas you can get a Tele any time I'd go for the Trad. Pro.
Probably the most helpful guy around right? Thanks im diggin the LP style alot right now anyways and the point about the Tele always will be available is something i havent yet considered, so im goin with the Epiphone as of now. I think itll suit my rig well.

Hi Negative Creep. You might also want to look at an epi 56 reissue Les Paul, they come with P-90 pups and might be what you are looking for. It sounds like a Tele on steroids, and plays like a LP. It's really the best of both worlds. Hope this helps.

I think it'll be a great guitar for the styles of music you like. And as has been said here already, Epiphone's build quality is great.

Yeah, what many people do not know is Les Paul worked in and with the Epiphone plant in whereversville to design the original Les Paul and actually did alot of mods and experiments there. Plus look at the cast of Epi players: Nick Valensi, BB King, The Libertines, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, John Lee Hooker, Les Paul, Ace Frehley

Just for point of reference... the Epiphone company that Les Paul knew bears absolutely no resemblance to the present day Epiphone, maker of cheap Asian guitars that look kinda like the guitar you really want.

The guitar that Les Paul chopped up was an archtop hand-built by a group of craftsmen who left Epi to form Guild in 1952 (because Epiphone had fallen on hard time after the war). So in a way, the real Epiphone is now more closely related to Fender than Gibson.

After Gibson bought them out in 1957, they made some fine guitars under the name, but eventually retired their own Kalamazoo budget brand and made Epiphone the new low price leader. They cheapened the guitars year by year, until arriving at today's chunks o' Chinese factory junk.

There are a lot of miles between Long Island and Qingdao, just as there is no musical resemblance between a bam genius like Les Paul and a drooling idiot like Ace Frehley. In fact, I can't think of two players that more precisely delineate the decline of Epiphone.

But as I say, it's just one man's opinion. If you like them, then rock, rock on.

And I know yall will call me blasphemous for even comparing these two and all that crap but seriously:
I am considering either an Epiphone Les Paul Traditional Pro or a Fender Standard Telecaster. I play Classic - Garage Punk - Psychadelic - Blues - Rock (alot to sum up right  ) But please help me make this decision. Im just looking for an all around amazing guitar thats well worth the hard earned money me and my parents are investing.

Telecaster. I have both an Epiphone and a Telecaster and I've got to say for punk/rock/blues and telecaster does the trick. Epiphone is good for blues too. But for punk a tele. Mainly because the neck is easier to move up and down on quicker for the fast chord changes! Hope i helped!

Schecter owns. Sorry, but I'm gonna beat a dead horse a few more times. Owns, owns, owns!! You won't be sorry. Spend the extra $200. Mow a few more lawns. Do whatever it takes.

My opinion of course. 8)

I still agree with Shredd on the Schecters. My Hellraiser is built VERY well, and plays like it could cost, several times what I paid for it. I've been jonesing for another, and think I may trade in the Hellraiser toward a Solo 6 custom. You could also find a couple year old used Schecter for $500 or less, and it'd be worth every penny.
