Hey there...

You've all heard of that internet company BYOC, right? Build Your Own Clone...

http://www.buildyourownclone.com

I ordered their Classic Overdrive pedal kit (which is basically an Ibanez TS-808 Tube Screamer) and it sounds awesome with my Fender Strat and Fender Frontman 65r amp. The sound is a lot more smoother and not as fuzzy and brittle with blistering high gain of of the drive channel on the Frontman 65r.

I made a You Tube video talking about the pedal and playing a few riffs, clean channel, BYOC Classic Overdrive pedal, and then with the Frontman 65r drive channel.

Edit: Here's some photos of my pedal kits...

I looked at those pedals for a while. I had thought of picking up the Classic Overdrive kit, but went the lazy route and just bought a pedal. At some point though, I'll pick up a kit and have some fun with it. Glad yours came out well, and I'm diggin' the paint too. 8)

Thanks... It was a lot of fun, building those pedals. BYOC provides such simple, straight forward instructions, that anyone can build a pedal! 8)

You start laying out all the components and start soldering in the smallest stuff first (diodes, resistors, etc..). You can also take the metal enclosure outside on newspaper and spray paint it while you take a break from soldering. I chose green just like the Ibanez Tube Screamer. I sprayed two coats of fast-dry green paint. Then I used my daughter's craft paint which is nothing more than clearcoat glitter paint. I did a quick coat with that. Then, finally finished it with two coats of gloss polyeurothane. Don't tell my wife, but, I put the enclosure on a cookie sheet and baked it in the oven at 350° for about 8-10 minutes to really harden and bake the paint!

Here's a few things that really helped...
(1) One of those "helping hands" thingamajig's from Radio Shack, with the magnifying glass. You can REALLY see the printed circuit board and where to solder the electronic components.
(2) A digital multimeter. This is an absolute "must have" in my case. See... I'm a little colorblind  and can't really make out the ohm value of the tiny little colored rings on the resistors. So, I have to map out each one with a multimeter and jot it down, taped on a piece of paper. I do the same with pretty much all the components, so I know which is which.
(3) A cold beer (in my case, an awesome tasting Yuengling beer!) 8)

I've thought about doing one of these, but I think I'd prefer to just build one from scratch, as I'm quite poor  .

Hey guys...

I just made a third You Tube video (I'm getting better at it). This one just hightlights the BYOC Classic Overdrive and goes through the range of tones. As always, I'm using my Fender Strat and my Fender Frontman 65r solid state amp.
