I finally learned that freak'en intro. That song has been like a road block for me for years. It's not that its hard, there was just something about it that I could not get. Well, no more. Soon I will own it. Now I can look at pictures of Jimi without feeling like he is laughing at me.

Little Wing sounds so easy but to get it right is a tough thing to do.
I've seen some really great versions and then some really bad ones...to make it sound great consistantly is the goal.

I'm working on the SRV version right now myself, I think that's by far the most emotional. I've gotten the intro down I think. That only leaves 5 1/2 minutes of blistering speed and soul left....

I've read that when Eric recorded that with Derek and the Dominoes plus Duane Allman,Jimi Hendrix was still alive, but it's doubtful he ever heard it,Eric intended it to be a tribute to Jimi.

One of my favourites of Jimi's to play..took me a month of Sundays to nail it note for note and then make it my own...the other favourite all time Jimi tune is The Wind Cries Mary...still love that song :!: :!: :!:

Congrats for nailing the intro to Little Wing, that run of notes near the end of the intro has always been problematic for me.

Jimi passed during the recording of the Layla album process (sep '70) if I remember right and it was done as a tribute.

Congratulations on nailing it. Little Wing is not easy to play, but the technical aspects - the shifting notes and runs within the chords - open up a world of possibilities once you learn them. I can't say I've ever nailed it note-for-note, but I do love playing around with it. After a while I always find that I am playing my own take on it, which is not necessarily right or wrong. SRV did his own take on it, although his is far superior to mine.

Hendrix version is probably one of my favorite songs, but so far as my favorite recorded piece of music, I think it would be SRV's take.

The first time I heard Little Wing I thought that it was the most beautiful piece of music ever written and I still do,to this day I get goosebumps and choked up whenever I hear the Axis Bold As Love Version-it's one of these songs that you hate to hear end-it's that beautiful.
