I have the original"naked ladies"album of Electric Ladyland-that cover caused quite a stir at the time and they scrambled to put the cover you see most often now on it. Audiences" House on The "album cover is one of the most puzzling I've seen,on the front are a man and a woman sat in a fancy drawing room drinking tea but when you open it fully-on back there's a butler dragging a man's body across the floor.I find that cover to be the best of black humour.

I don't know how many of you get the Digital Music News "Daily Snapshot" . It summarizes the news of the recording industry in a daily e-mail for those of you who are interested in those things. (subscribe at digitalmusicnews.com)

Anyway, here is a response to DMN's reports about vinyl's resurgence from a subscriber. It's from today's (12-Aug-11) Daily Snapshot and I thought I'd share it with you as it mentions cover art. NOTE: The opinions expressed below do not necessarily reflect those of this poster (me).

And Now, 6 Reasons Why Vinyl Totally Sucks...

There IS another side to the euphoria surrounding vinyl, particularly from music fans that simply view LPs as an inferior format. And, one mostly driven by nostalgia instead of sound superiority and factors like 'warmth'. Like this recent reader, who clearly delineated six reasons why vinyl totally sucks... and one reason why it doesn't.

"Vinyl sucks because:

1. The static clicks and pops ruin the sound, and I haven't yet seen a setup that didn't have them. This far outweighs whatever alleged resonance it may or may not have. The static makes vinyl unlistenable.

2. It is extremely fragile and degrades a little with each play even if you take perfect care of it.

3. Is big and bulky and heavy, and so is the equipment needed to play it.

4. You have to flip the record for side 2.

5. No easy skipping of tracks.

6. It's harder to rip into your computer.

The only win for vinyl that I can think of is that the cover art and liner notes are bigger and cooler.

So I guess I just don't comprehend the whole vinyl thing, and I'm old enough to have bought vinyl in the 70s when it was all there was.

Signed,

B..."

new technologies will kill everything or run for some years side by side till one will prevail.
today you can download your fave songs, no full album needed anymore. those don't need covers but space on their ipods & co.

let see what the future brings.

cheers :D

i liked the covers on the molly hatchet albums.
"ride the lightning" from metallica and "destroyer" from kiss are just a few that i thought were really cool.

I'd have to say it was the Cassette Tape that killed album cover art. I was actually glad when CD's came out, at least you could see the art, read the words and it usually had a cool 5 or 6 page book (at least with new releases), which is very cool in it's own right.

Still, nothing will ever be as cool as a Big Cardboard Covered piece of Vinyl. 8)

Saved all my vinyl. Too many memories to not keep them and spin them on my turntable.

Tres Hombres was the first ZZ Top album I heard,La Grange just blew me away,I almost wore that track out-lifting the needle and replaying it.
