Im in the minority but I find that piece discordant and most of his playing aggravating 'noise'.

I wouldn't describe it as discordant, but its seems a little lacking in melody and dynamics to me.
Very impressive though.

I love SRV, but that's not his finest work. It wasn't terrible, but wasn't great, either.

What I find sad is that people will listen to an entire album of his "lesser" recordings (if he were a classical composer or author, they would call them his "minor" pieces), but they won't give an equally impressive artist* (such as Buddy Whittington, Tab Benoit, or Bernard Allison) half a spin.

Blues will never recover unless some people get over the endless, mindless SRV-adulation.

*Yes, I said those guys are equal to SRV; he was great, but not above measure.

My enjoyment of SRV is purely his guitar playin. As far as the Blues goes there are many artists that are unheard of but that has always been the case with the blues. Its not main stream. I search and find as many as I can. I don,t put anyone of the blueas artist from the past 30 yrs on a pedestal. They,re just copying the greats ( Muddy, Freddy, Albert, BB King, just to name afew. SRV wrote little music himself but I love his sound and playing.

T, you didn't post that was from 79 a full 4 years before he was "discovered". Clearly an improvised set closer and at 3 whatever minutes it is better than most guitarists, with the exception of Johnny Winter, could ever hope to play. I mean no disrespect to any guitarists at all I'll bet the best of them would cop to similar thoughts after listening.
