I say hold on to the Bassman, return the FM212R and use that money to repair the Bassman. The FM212 is NOWHERE near the quality of the Bassman.

my vote is for not sell, especially in this economy and replacing what you have now will cost you even more later on

forgive the all lower case letters - left hand being in cast makes it a job to type correctly

so...now that i discovered that my 1973/1974 amp is actually a 1969 model, ain't no way i'm gonna sell it.

i'll use the 212r untill i sell off some watersports stuff and then get the bassman repaired.

local guitar dealer (who does not sell Fender) tells me i'll like the 212, so i'm looking forward to trying it out.

anybody into wakeboarding and interested in a wakekite? never used!

EDIT: i did get some fuses yesterday. amp blew as soon as i turned the power on - with the amp on standby. so - i will be replacing the caps, fuses and whatever else the technician recommends. Guy has quite a good reputation in Orlando.

any recomendations on tubes for this?

I'm a 57 year old hacker who likes to play old motown, late 60's/early 70's rock and blues.

I am re-teaching myself to play and have a Hal Leonard "classic rock" DVD on the way

If you have the '69 model you have one of the finest blues/rock amps ever made.I run my '69 Bassman through a '68 Bassman 2-15 cabinet and when I run my Strats or Guild S-100 NB through it it's pure magic.Mine starts to break up nicely around 6 and continues to exponentially from there on in.

saw someone on craig's list who was selling a 1971 model. His did not have that 1/4" aluminum trim around the grill and his speaker cabinet looked like it was square, even though he had 2 15" speakers.

My cabinet is 29" wide and 39" tall.

So, yea I'm thinking mine is a '69 model. I'll find out for sure when the tech gets inside the head.

I sure don't understand how I got a '69.

I bought this amp, supposedly new, off the showroom floor of a Torrance California music store in 1973 or 1974.

But - I ain't complainin' !!

I'm not absolutely certain but Arjay(Retroverbial) would know for sure but the aluminum trim rail would make it a '68 as I believe that the trim rail was unique to that year. That's how I found out that my amp was '69 and the speaker cab was '68 as only the speaker cab had the trimrail.Maybe if you posted this info and possibly a pic in the vintage amp section Arjay or another amp guru could say for sure.Either way you have a classic amp.

Yup, posted this info on the vintage amp section and Retroverbial confirmed that it was a 69 by the amp chassis serial number.

I must say, I feel a lot lighter since you guys convinced me to not sell this amp!

As Gomer Pyle would say: "thank ya, thank ya....Thank Ya!"

Got a good amp, got a good guitar

now all I have to is learn to play.

Had 9 years of lessons as a kid - think I remember anything :)?

Ya know, I think I may have the forerunner of that book...

I still have all my books from when was a kid.

I have a Mel Bay "Guitar Chords" book that my guitar teacher had me buy... in 1964 for $1.00.

I still have my Monkees song books for guitar!

I think that every budding rock star back in the mid 60s had the Monkees song books- their first album song book was the first chord book I had and how I learned my chords. Papa Gene's Blues and Sweet Young Thing were my favourites, both by Mike Nesmith.

Bingo!!

Papa's Gene's Blues was my all time favorite. I still find myself singing that.

I loved Mike. I wanted to be Mike. I even wore a green "tossel" hat like he did.
