So I bought this neat little Yamaha acoustic off of a 1LT who was leaving theatre(I had this GARBAGE acoustic that needed a new nut and ultimaely I just junked it) and picked up a Martin strap online, I love leather straps. Usually with these kind of straps, I just wrap the lace around the hole and knot it off to keep there from being too much excess lace hanging loose, but I didn't do that for this one. What do you guys usually do with excess lace at the headstock end?

Couldn't you cut it off?

Leave it dangling and look pro ;)

I dont like cutting it off, just cos you never know when I might need that extra bit later on for some reason.

Use a wire tie, the type you get with things you order from the internet, and use it to tie the lace in a shorter length together(say three or four lengths of wire tie side by side, tied together). Or use something better than a wire tie.

If my acoustic does not have a strap button installed I use one of these: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Planet-Wave ... 1133523.gc

This has worked for me for about 40 years. I think it's a shoelace. Classy huh? :D :D

It came from a time when playing was far more important than profiling, plus we didn't have any money!

I strongly dislike the way an acoustic guitar rests on your body when it is tied off at the headstock. Too much guitar body hanging out off my right side. Feels unnatural to me. If an acoustic guitar does not have a strap button at the neck heel I install one before anything else. That operation is the first part of my initial setup once I aquire the guitar. I rarely play sitting down unless I am forced to by the situation. The first thing I need is a comfortable strap.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
