Sorry, rippitup but I'm missing something. I'm sure it's just me but look at the 8:40 mark of what? Did I miss a link or am I supposed to know what to look at?
I believe you though my friend!

Elwood is definitely the Man behind "The Man!!"

That's why you can't get Billy F.'s tone at home!
I also saw another Premier Guitar video with Brian Farmer giving a rundown of Warren Haynes' live gear,Brian worked in several music stores around here before he went to work for Warren and is a cool guy, back in the early '80's he worked in a store a few miles up the road from me with Allen Woody who played bass with The Allman Brothers Band and Gov't Mule....that was before Allen played with those guys,he was a good guy,I hated that he died way too young.

As a HUGE ZZ Top fan (I own every official/legitimate release as well as multiple bootlegs--shh! dont' tell anybody!!), I enjoy all things ZZ...this video was great.

Three earlier observations that this video jogged:

(1) Elwood Francis looks suspiciously like Billy Gibbons did at that age (sans beard). Do some side-by-side comparisons, and you'll be surprised. I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'. :?

(2) Billy's got an extremely light touch. He has to have a light touch, to be using 7s for strings! But the real observation is that you can get a heavy tone out of light strings. I went from 10s or 11s down to 9s after reading that Billy used 7s a few years ago...all of the sudden, my playing improved (so much so that the Lady Armadillo [my harshest critic] noted, "You sound better--what did you do?").

I was able to get more nuances and hit little licks that previously required some wrestling with ease...and when I tweaked the EQ on my amp, all the sonic girth I lost returned (bumped down the Treble and bumped up the Bass...my amp doesn't have a "Mid" knob).

(3) I want just a small portion of BFG's guitar collection/customization fund...I was sweating paying for the resonator I recently purchased, it must be nice to pick up instruments while on the road without batting an eye.

Yeah these rig rundowns are pretty cool eh, and another myth busted No coins used as a pick, Dunlops are Billy's preferred choice of pick.
That LP Elwood picked up with thumb and forefinger  + the 7's must feel like spider web on thin air eh and also talking of having the neck chambered.
Played with super ulta light's way back and they felt real good you could bend them strings all day and night I might give them another try.
