My main computer is in the shop. I am reduced to my I phone for updates at this time. I hate not having a computer in the house. Oh well, more time for guitar now. I hope to be back up in about a week. I use it for recording and internet useage, so no recording for now.

Good luck! I never realized how my whole world seems to revolve around this box of circuit boards.

My computer crashed on July 22nd. It took me two days to get it going well enough to use the backup hard drive. It took ten days to get it back to near normal. Even with the backup drive I had to reinstall almost all of my software and every update of the operating system and programs back nearly five years.

I never want to have to do that again.

Good luck - I fix 'em all day long!

Try to use your system restore points if possible in the future.

...and if iOS, Lion isn't compatible with all add-ons yet.

I'll check it out.

Carbonite! Isn't that what they froze Han Solo with?

Being something of a sci-fi geek I looked at this thread because the title used the term main computer as in, "Mr. Data. Quickly. Lock out the main computer," and now a Han Solo reference. I believe they encased him in carbonite but I don't know what they froze him with.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Hi Mike,

I couldn't get past the Windows startup page. The screen went black so I couldn't use the system restore points or even roll back the drivers. It was scary. I thought I had lost everything.

Main computer is back up. I had several viruses on it. I had an antivirus software called Kaspersky on it. Never had issues with Norton, now it is now back on. The Geek Squad was full of crap when they sold Kaspersky to me. Fair warning to those using Kaspersky. I am anal when it comes to updating and running scans, yet this program let 15 viruses on my computer. I asked them why it didn't work, they said I needed for update and run scans more often. I figure that once a day should do it, been doing it for years. I do not see the need to keep a program on the computer that just does not work.

After I got my computer home, spent spent the next few hours restoring it to factory settings. Now to add my Sonor LE and Fuse software and drivers. It's late now and time for bed. I'll do it in the morning.

My brother swears by McAfee, but I've used Norton from the beginning with no complaints. I'm running Norton 360 these days.
