I gotta tell ya, when it comes to guitars, we leftys are litterally LEFT out!
Lord knows we're the best at what we do.
Anyway, I'm thinking about upgrading/changing my pickups on my strat, but the lefty thing seems to be an an issue.
anyone care to ring in? I'm looking at the Hot "Noiseless" set or I'm hearing good things about the EMG SA.

I'm a lefty... but I play right-handed.
I could have learned either way, but I figured RH guitars are more available.

I'm lefty but from 'square one', I was tipped off about the overwhelming advantages of a lefty learning righty. 40+ years later, I'm SO glad I followed that advice!

I have no experience with the Hot Noisless but plenty with the EMGs. The SAs do sound REALLY nice and with an SPC (fat control), they cover a lot of ground. If you want the vintage look, meaning, the 6 exposed polepieces per pickup, go with the SAVs.

I'm a lefty. I have found that while I agree that we don't have much selection, most stores lower the prices on left handed guitars because they don't want the inventory cost. I got my Highway One Strat fro a great deal. I didn't get the colour that I wanted, but I am really starting to like the Honey Blonde that I did get.

Can't really help with your p/u question as I have factory p/u.

There are places that will make lefty pups or pups without the polepiece stagger. Here are a couple:

Lefty here....

(Write with my left hand...throw/push with my right hand)

I don't think it's coincidence that lefties are frequenting this place. Of all the music stores I've been to...

(Well, chances are the one or two left handed models are going to be either Squire or Fender.)

:D

Anyways...good luck with the noiseless pickups. (the above poster gave some great advice!)

well, Mr feathers, it appears you're an older bastard like me, (got a few years on ya though), and you DO play lefty. I kinda dropped out for about 25 years, then decided to build a studio in my basement and do what I like to best. Not a pro anymore, although I did play pro for 10 years including drums, sax, bass, etc...I do it all myself...kinda gives a whole new meaning to playing with yourself!!! OK back on topic. I heard those EMGs and really liked the sound.
I can't get a straight answer on the lefty issue however. the EMG guys haven't responded. I'll check the sites you offered.
Ciao,
Bontempo

The SAs use a flat blade magnet so it wouldn't make a difference whether it was installed in a lefty or a righty guitar.

I started playing when I was about 10, and played several different instruments on a non professional basis until I was in my early 20's then walked away from music until I was 44. I have enjoyed playing again and still have no desire to turn professional.
The companies I mentioned have pickups that will work in Lefty guitars, so you should have no problem finding something to your liking.
Let us know which way you go with your pickup selection.

So are you thinking of calling a Lefty forum the 'in our right mind' forum?

Lefty here. One of those stubborn ones that actually plays left-handed, who ignored all that well-meaning advice to learn the "right" way. Never regretted it either.
