i am right handed and plays right handed
perhaps i should have learn to play left handed when i started out
many talented guitar players are left handed
such as Jimi Hendrix & Kurt Cobain
in fact when we are playing electric guitar right handed
it is our left hand which are actually fretting & playing more
compared to the pick picking right hand

I'm a righty. Thank goodness, or I wouldn't be able to operate a pair of scissors. I used to surf and skateboard "goofy foot", (left foot forward), so I'm kind of ambidextrous. Or is that quasidextrous?

I'm surprised at the number of lefties. I thought, (and I don't know why) the number was more like 10% not 20 like we're showing here.

I just Googled it. One site said 12 - 15%.

I consider myself left-handed. However, there are plenty of things I do right-handed. As such, I made a conscious decision to learn the guitar as a righty. Availability of equipment and learning materials played a major role in that decision.

Things I do left-handed:

- Write and draw
- Eat with utensils
- Drink from a glass
- Throw a ball, paper airplane or darts
- Cut with an xacto knife
- Comb my hair

Things I do right-handed:

- Drink from a mug
- Use scissors, hammers, and most other tools
- Throw a frisbee
- Play golf
- Hit a baseball
- Shoot a gun (even though I'm left-eye dominant)
- Play guitar

If left-handed people are the only ones in their right minds, I don't know what I am. But I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous!

I'm ampidextrous but my preference is right handed.

Over here in the Uk parents were advised right handed was best for the kids, so if you picked up a pencil or whatever with your left when you were a toddler they would put it in your right hand.

Not so anymore, both my kids are left handed

That's interesting...apperently you can choose both, so I accidently did that. To clarify, i'm right handed when it comes to the guitar.

I wonder how this compares to the general population?

For the record: Right-handed . . . but all thumbs!

I'm left handed, but I play right handed. When I first started to play, I couldn't afford a guitar, so I played my friend's guitars (who were right handed). Works for me, because now I can pick up just about any guitar and play (right handed).

I also learned to play drums right handed for the same reason of being able to sit down to any drum set and play.
