Hey guys today I went down to a local store and bought me a new humbucker for my strat...

...and if you really can't guess what pickup I went with, I got the always popular Seymour Duncan JB (typical right? but hey, they wouldn't be used so much if they weren't as stinkin' good as they are)

I own a 2008 Am. Standard HSS strat, and the reason I bought this humbucker is because I find the Fender Diamondback to be way to bright and metallic-y. I'm not dissing the pup, its just not working out for me...

Anyways here's where I need some input- I been trying to find the schematic for a Am. Std HSS, but Fender doesn't have it online. Also, is the volume pot on my strat a 250k? I have a 500k to replace it, but would this change anything if I do?

The wiring that came with the pup is for Gibson type guitars (of course...) and so I was wondering if anyone can provide me with some possible wiring diagrams for my strat?

I'm going to try to tackle this project with a friend who use to do guitar repair and mods, so I think It would be a good learning experience. I'm pretty decent with a solder gun as well...

Thanks for the unput guys. Its been great to be able to have ya'll these past years.

ha you know what I just realized guys? Fender's humbuckers have the two screws on one side, one on the other...
You would think with the hours I put in researching better pups and stuff, I would have realized this... oh well...

Is there any solution for this too? Or should I just go ahead and drill some new holes?

(BTW before anyone tries to give me grief for "defiling" an American Stratocaster, just know that I NEVER plan on selling this strat. It has a huge intrinsic value to me, and because of this I don't mind doing whatever I see fit to do with it. I want the strat to be "my strat," not some strat that thirty years from now I plan on selling because its "vintage" or whatever)

The value of your volume pot should be etched on the back face of it. As far as switching it out for a 500k (if it is a 250) you might notice more output but also more hum and noise from your single coils. As far as schematics go just Google (or Bing, Yahoo) a search and I'm sure you'll find sites that have alternative wiring diagrams for strats...just look for strat wiring mods. HTH :D

Here's your wiring diagram:

If you find that your JB is out of phase when paired with the middle pickup, reverse the wiring of the JB's black and green wires.

The volume pot on your Strat is a 250K. Leave it as contrary to popular belief, a JB was designed around/for 250K pots and not 500K ones. Changing to a 500K one will give you an irritating upper midrange hump with no appreciable bass.

Please believe me, I'm not trying to insult anyone here. Rather, I'm just being objective. Consider that your "friend who use to do guitar repair and mods" may not be as proficient as you think for the above information should be quite basic to someone who is well versed in "guitar repair and mods".

You're welcome and best of luck.

Very cool thank ya'll so much

And I didn't know that about the JB too, that saves me a lot of time that I don't have to switch out the pot.

haha and don't worry too about offending me. Before the guy went into seminary, he use to be a guitar tech as a job. He hasn't done any repairs or mods for other people in a while, rather than just modding his own stuff. He's a pretty cool guy, he use to be a youth pastor and now is teaching bible education in our school district.
