What is that on the floor in the Lair of the Screamin' Armadillo?

Image
Why, it looks like...

Image
Yes, it is...

Image
It's a Dean Chrome G Acoustic-Electric Resonator!

Image
A lot of the gold finish is worn off of the resonator plate, so there's a touch ofaged patina to it already. 8)

Image

I've been wanting a metal-bodied resonator with pickups for several years. I made a bid on this one on Ebay, thinking, "Aw, it'll never go that cheap!" Lo and Behold, it did...and I really didn't want to empty out my "stash" money...but Lady Armadillo don't like payin' for no guitars out of the family funds, so my stash is down to $60 right now.

Image

The sound?
Acoustically, it's very good. A little thinner than the average National Steel body, but that is to be expected with the slimmer body profile. Slightly Banjo-ish, but most resonators have a degree of that. Overall, I like the acoustic sound very much.
You be the judge; Click on the picture for a video (and go easy on my playing and singing...I know I'm not anything spectacular):

Image

I counted three mistakes, the first one being the fact that I'm trying to play guitar.
By the way, did you know that a slick, chorme-plated metal body won't stay in your lap, making you squirm and wiggle around like you have to go pee in the middle of a song? :?

Plugged in, I'm going to have to make some kind of adjustment. I've only owned one acoustic-electric, and it has a built-in notch filter, so there's very little feedback. This thing, even with the slimmer body profile, will scream like a banshee if you're not careful. It did okay when I was able to get far enough away and watch where I pointed it (...that's what she said! :P ).

Image

The Lipstick in the neck position sounds pretty good, of course a bit "metallic" (not Metallica); overall, it's a good-sounding pickup and I think it will be good for bluesy Americana/rock stuff.

Image
The piezo in the resonator is a bit harsh and quacky; I don't know if an upgrade is in order, or if I'll be able to shape the sound with the "Blend" knob (the middle knob blends the two pickups) and/or perhaps an EQ pedal. Time will tell. Overall, I'm still happy, and it sounds fairly authentic, even through my (non-acoustic) '63 Re-issue Vibroverb amp.

Image

...and yes, I am de-railing my own thread by bringing out the Ostrich Boots (aka Semi-Epic Footwear Made From a Giant African Chicken)

Thanks...
The action is how I like it--low. I was concerned about that because I prefer all my guitars to be set as low as they can go without fret buzz...even the guitars I play slide on (which is pretty much all of them :D ). It forces me to have a lighter touch with my fretting hand, which makes for a more fluid movement...at least for me.

What a cool guitar. I've always wanted one of those - great score! Gorgeous. Congrats!

(BTW: "lair"? I thought Screamin' Armadillos lived in large twiggy nests built on top of tall cactuses - for the view. No?)

Twaddle: I counted none. You're playing is just great. That was lots of fun: thank you.

Oh, and since we've been talking accents recently, I just love yours. A perfect match for that geet! 8)

Hee-hee: you need one of those adjustable foot rest thingies the classical players use. That look would surprise them, down the grand ole opry... :D

Thanks for posting, SA. Got the weekend off to just the right start.

Cheers - C
