Couple of basses come to mind as gone but not forgotten favorites.
1968 Telecaster in blonde.
1991 JP90
that's it.

Where I have smallish hands I like basses with narrow necks like my 60s Vox Astro IV model V273 violin bass with built in fuzz,bass/treble boost and G tuner.I also like Hofner 500/1 Beatle Basses as well as Fender Jazz,Jaguar and Mustang Basses.MY buddy has a 60s Framus bass with an SG style body that also has a very slim and comfortable neck.

I'm not a bass player. I am a bass owner who has played bass on occasions.

The ones I like:

The original style of the Fender Precision ('51 to '56). Simple, perfect unadorned. Nice farty tone (as Dusty Hill described his own tone, "Like a rhino farting into a trash can..."

The Telecaster bass of the late 60s/early 70s. Ditto to the above description, only more so...

Ampeg Big Stud bass (made from '73 to '75). Take the design of a 51 P-bass, make it in Japan with a cheaper plywood body (stained "Dog Pee Yellow"), add a 4-pole P-90 pickup in the bridge position, a pickup selector switch, and a headstock that is larger than a Steinberger body. You've got a glorious mess that rocks hard. I own one of these, and while it always gets strange looks, real bassists (not guitarists) marvel at how good it sounds.

Ibanez Soundgear. I know that isn't like any of the other basses on my list, but I have been in several bands with bassists who played these and they always have a nice tone that reflects the player themselves; if they're a "vintage" rock/blues player, this bass works. If they're more funk/r&b oriented, it still fits the bill, and it works for C&W, too. Plus, the series ranges from cheap to mid-range, and all of them are pretty good.
