"After Bank of America Corp.’s more than 20% decline on Monday, the U.S. financial giant was worth less than Royal Bank of Canada.

BofA’s market cap fell to US$65.974-billion as global markets nosedived to start the week, while RBC only pulled back 2.8% to C$69.690-billion."

Strange days indeed. I'm still thinking of retiring in Las Vegas in a year or so.

I'm going to post this here because its already political... I'm in the techshop here with a militant liberal. I'm by no means an economist so can someone help me understand this feller's mentality? He is off on the quintessential "its Bush's fault" rant about the recession "Obama HAD to double the Deficit to create Jobs" blah blah blah. Then tells me he (Obama) couldn't create the jobs because the republican's wouldn't allow them to raise taxes. to make a long dumb story shorter and hopefully more to the point, ACTUALLY argued with me that Raising taxes on businesses, esepecially large companies would CREATE jobs.

Am I missing something here?

I never really considered myself too conservative til i got pulled into conversations with the good old "New York Times Liberal"

Indeed!

So many of the nation's businesses both large and small that shuttered their windows and switched out the lights permanently were obviously taxed and regulated far too little. How much Kool-Aid does your "buddy" drink anyway?

'So what?' is how I'd respond. Obama is the president. His election campaign wasn't based on 'I won't be able to do anything as President because my hands are tied'. He is suppose to be the LEADER. Clinton and Reagan, love them or hate them, got stuff done.

The USA is by far the strongest economic power in the world. It's like a football team with an all star line up that's on a losing streak. It's up to the coach to manage all the egos pull all that talent together and 'WIN'.

This is what the USA gets electing a guy who doesn't play a Fender.

I'm not familiar with the debt ceiling situation so can you guys help me out... I thought both the Liberals and Republicans in Congress came to an agreement on the plan and the President just approved it. Now that's it backfired how is it the Presidents fault? Should he have vetoed it like he said he would?

som 14.3 trillion debt- did this debt get racked up during Obama's term or was it during Bush's term, or both? ;)

I cant imagine the debt being accumulated during a single 4 year term. I think Bush administration is equally at fault, or partially at the very least. :)
