Funny thing is as far as the price point goes, the Tweaker isn't much more than the Blues Jr and will also sound better than the Blues Jr.

BMW, wait till the speakers break in. They are simply awesome speaker cabs. If the impedance matches, try them with the Blues jr. Could be fun. They even make my stupid GDec 30 sound better.

Yah Supro, I always wondered about that too. I've got that old Line-6 AX2-212 still and I always wondered what difference it would make to put a pair of real guitar speakers into it. I'm guessing the stock speakers must be pretty much a flat sounding P/A style driver. I spent even more money than I'm admitting here with this amp purchace. I also put a 50% deposit on a pair of Celestion Golds which will take about 6 weeks to come in. I'm thinking one in the top cab of the Rebel and one in the Rivera and leave both extension cabs as they are. As I posted elsewhere a few weeks ago my plan is to use the A/B/Y to set up a dual amp rig using the Rivera for the cleans and the Rebel for the crunchies.

Yes that's pretty much it in a nut shell. When you figure the exchange rate at the time I purchased and the cost of the parts and shipping and border fees and such for the mods I'm into that BJ for about a thousand Cannuck Bucks. It's a pity I'm going to lose my shirt on it but that's the life we choose.

Nice score BMW! I love the Egnater gear. I plan on picking up a rebel at some point.

Glad you like the new amp BMW - that was an awesome post with the detailed comparison!!

I love the small wattage amps myself - I have the VOX NIGHT TRAIN and the ORANGE TINY TERROR - love them both!! Plan on getting one of the Rebels soon - just gotta make room - I have a roomfull of Marshall's and Fender amps, but find myself jamming with these smaller ones way more often!!

Enjoy the new amp dude!!

I'm a former member of this forum who decided to stop posting but still scans for items of interest. I had to re-register to throw my two cents into this thread:

You've made an excellent choice! I went through a similar slog with a Blues Junior (not as many mods as you, but enough to frustrate me) and assumed from the hype bestowed on the amp by members of the FDP and others that the problem was me.

Since then I've tried a string of production amps (too loud for the studio, too expensive to justify, crummy-sounding) and a hand-built tweed Princeton clone (awesome, but only did one thing awesomely). Nothing did what I needed.

I got pretty excited by the early rumors and press releases about the Rebel 20, and bought one of the first ones in my town. It's been the perfect studio amp... IMO, you cannot do better for the price.

Be sure to try it with a an open back cab... the Rebel 1x12 is awesome, but an open back cab with a bright speaker (I use an Eminence Red Fang) will let the Rebel do its best job emulating Fenders like the Deluxe Reverb.

(Full Disclosure Footnote: I am an Egnater Artist, so I have a relationship with the company, but used their amps exclusively for a couple years before that.)

Sell the BJ and buy the Rebel. Well that didn't work out very well. People hear that you've modified your previously "Genuine' Fender amp and they say, " Give ya 50 bucks for it?"

I will give you Fifty-ONE American dollars right now.

Yeah, a Rebel 20 or Rebel 30 has been on my GAS list for quite a while...your comparison confirmed my initial trepidations about the Blues Jr. It was one of those things that you wanted to work out so much (made by Fender, looked good, nice size), but it just quite didn't cut it for my needs.

Naw, just by my evangelistic love of the Rebel. :) BYW, now that I've seen that photo of your '63 Supro up big, well... I'm floored. You are a lucky man to own that guitar.

Screamin'... the Blues Junior sells extremely well because it LOOKS so much like a real amp. As we all know, guitar players frequently hear through their eyes.

I get the sneaky suspicion that the Blues Jr is like a good looking girl who turns out to be vapid and has very little personality...no offense to owners/lovers of those amps, just MHO.

Thanks EgFryer. That Supro is a fun guitar. More tonal variation than you could ever ask for. All those knobs are tone and volume controls and it's actually a three pickup guitar. There's one built into the bridge. It plays like an LP Fretless Wonder. Great for slide too.

For all you noobs, EgFryer is not only an extremely talented musician, but he's the one who talked me into the Rebel in the first place. he also has a real recording studio and is a wealth of recording information. The honeymoon is never over with that amp.
A piece of great gear inspires you to play. I'm going through a thing right now. I bought a Martin OMCPA4 last weekend because I needed an acoustic/electric that sounded great unplugged too. I tried lots in my price range. Taylor, Takamine, Epi Masterbuilt, the Stratacoustic I tried for fun. It pretty much sucked acoustically and was built poorly. I went with the Martin because the Taylor was too bright, and none of the others picked Me. The Martin had a nice neck, is all solid tone woods, sounded well balanced has a nice Fishman system in it and the guitar is made in Nazareth Pa and guaranteed for life. It inspires me to play acoustically.
Moral of the story is, if it doesn't inspire you to use it, get rid of it or never take it home in the first place.
