Roland/BOSS has uploaded a new firmware for the BR-800 recorder. The firmware adds advanced track editing (just like what is in the BR-600), and also allows one to copy insert effects http://www.rolandus.com/products/productdetails.php?ProductId=1068&tab=downloads&skip=true.

IMO it’s a PITA to edit tracks in the recorder, it’s much easier to use DAW, but the feature is convenient if you’re not able to connect to a PC.

I finally got the time to do my update, it's pretty painless if you have an external card reader, my Acer Aspire 1 netbook has this feature.

I downloaded the ZIP'd file to a BR folder that I had already created, extracted the four sys files and 'copied' them. I took the SD card out of the BR-800, inserted the card into my netbook, than click on 'My Computer', clicked on the SD card icon which opened the BR-800's Roland folder, and 'pasted' the the four sys files in the main root area.

Than took out the SD from the netbook, insterted back into the BR-800, turned it on, saw the 'checking for update' msg, which prompted for me to press the 'Enter' (for yes to upgrade), and it upgraded.

After the upgrade is done, than turn off the BR-800, take out the SD, place back into my netbook, and deleted the four sys files (you don't have to do this, but I do) than replace the SD card back into the BR-800 & record.
