I've played pretty much every one in the store, from the cheapest to the most expensive Strat they had. For my money and playability and don't forget the comfort zone, an American Standard Strat is what I tuck home. Its an all around dynamite guitar suitable for all kinds of music and it has the look of quality. 8) :) $1,000

I don't know about this one. My Strat was $280 in 1972 and was playable no problem. I got my son a Squire Strat back in 1996 or so and paid around $200 for a Strat pack and that was very playable too. Counting inflation I think my 72 would be around $1200 today, so I would say between $200-$1200. The Squire needed some tweaking to get it nice. It had minor setup issues, nothing huge though. No offense, but maybe a new hobby IS the answer. If you paid $2,000 for an unplayable guitar who's fault was that?

I paid $299 for my MIM Strat is 2000 and it is perfectly gig worthy. Some people go over the top chasing tone when it might have been right in front of them all along with a bit of tweaking and adjusting.

hi! some of my favorite players have played strats faithfully. I have been trying to purchase one for myself. The problem is that i have limited funds. Can anyone tell how much they had to spend to get a strat that was stage worthy? Its not that i wont pay its just that i have already tried that option. i paid big bucks for 50,s style strat. and i have to say it was not playable. I paid almost 2000.oo for the guitar. I mean really how much do i have 2 spend?

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I also agree with ya Hop!

You have to spend $328.72 to get a real fine playable Strat. Everybody knows that. :D

I agree with the train of thought that the 'unplayable' guitar you bought could very well have needed a setup to play the way you like. I have never bought a guitar that didn't need some level of adjustment to feel good in my hands. Also, I've mentioned on other similar posts, some people have to take time getting used to the feel of a Fender neck, especially coming from playing a soloist; that;s like apples and oranges for sure. But hey, if you don't find a Fender you like, at least you have a soloist to play.
