Hey Doc!

Saw your message so i thought I should just stop by and tell that I'm ok.
Some of my friends did not make it out alive, some are still missing, but most of the people I knew over there survived.

No one would ever believe that this could happen in little peaceful Norway, such a tragedy.
85 confirmed killed on Utøya, 7 in Oslo. There might be more since some people are still missing.

Also, this was not a terrorist attack from some middle-eastern group.
This was the work of one lonesome right-wing extremist with an intense hate against islam and marxism it seems.

Except this time it was a white far right christian who they believe has done this due to a hatred of muslims and disagreement with the tolerance towards them that Norway show in their policies. Al-Qaeda have no part in this one at all, it was just an attack on his own country.

Tragic.

(No attack on you here btw) but what I find ridiculous is that CBC jump to conclusions that a muslim group has to be involved with this, I'm sure they weren't the only ones. Over here they did well to not pin anything on them before they knew who was actually behind it.

I believe the reason why they have targeted Norway stems from an unflattering comic strip spoof on Mohammad that was printed in a Norwegian magazine a few years ago-any excuse can drive this crowd of kooks to a murder spree.

I'm sure that I can speak for all of us by saying how relieved we are to learn that you were physically untouched by this while, at the same time, extend our deepest sympathies and thoughts to all of those who were injured or killed by this madness.

Not unlike the Oklahoma attack of several years ago we will, in time, know the details of the manifesto in which this nutjob justifies the taking of innocent lives.

I told my friend that to draw and quarter this maniac in retribution for his act would be appropriate, under the circumstances, but 1000 such punishments upon him would not be sufficient to reimburse the loss.

Stay safe.

Doc.

Hold on guitslinger...
No links to any Muslim groups as of yet. Just right-wing-extremism. Much like Timothy McVeigh, who killed 168 in Oklahoma in the USA.

They did find a 1500 word manifesto purportedly written by the suspect looking to create a European Civil War to drive out a number of groups including the Muslims.

I edited mine so your old one doesn't show, fear not we all understand you meant no offence by it and were going by news networks early reports....like I said before if anything the blame there should be laid at the door of the network assuming it had a muslim link.

This is a terrible tragedy. My heart goes out to the victims, their families, and friends. I too thought it was an extremist Muslim group involved at first, and I am sorry for my first assumptions. It is terrible that a demented individual decides to take destructive actions like this instead of putting his or her energies into something more creative and beneficial for mankind.

But this also shows that am have become a little too quick to point fingers towards a group of people without getting the whole story first. When I was younger I was more the "innocent until proven guilty" type of person. I did not realize I was becoming a synic as I grow older.

Something in first reports gave voice to a Muslim group having taken credit for the act. It was being handled as such, and quite aggressively by the way, by a talk radio personality
whose program is heard in the NYC market in the late afternoon, early evening. His sources are usually considered reliable.

Misinformation and jumping to conclusions prematurely set aside, it's unfortunate that Islam has been hijacked by a variety of subsets whose agendas and politico-religious philosophies are at variance and, for whom, witnessing the recent hotel assault in Pakistan, this kind of violence is a tool. It has been said of Islam that, in many respects, it is a faith subject to individual interpretation.

I suggest to you that a very thorough review of the history of the 'Middle East" and Western Colonialism, going back at least 200 years is in order, paying particular interest to the activities of Great Britain and the United States on the Arabian Peninsula with respect to Iran, Iraq, and the discovery of oil in what was to become Saudi Arabia, and how the Saud's allied themselves with the Wahabist's of Islam who were already in the process of 'purifiying' the faith in their part of the word, if I may be so bold, to their mutual interests, both political and religious. You might also come to find that the truth of "Lawrence of Arabia'' is far different from the movie.

Squarely put, if you're shopping for Shinola, you'd best know your $@!& first.
Consider the writings of one Bernard Lewis as a place to begin
