Just heard Amy Winehouse found dead in her London flat. Terrible waste of talent.

Yeah, I saw that earlier Rhumba! Overdose I suppose. A definite waste!

I had her first CD (Frank) and became a fan and when her
next one came out and topped the charts worldwide, it seems
that she just couln't handle being thrust into the spotlight.

It is indeed a shame and a waste of talent.

If you go back to the Strat Pack 50th anniversary DVD (2004) there is a segment of a young, attractive, and talented Amy Winehouse. No excessive makeup, beehive or sailor tattoos. Fast forward to 2008 after the success of her Back to Black and the demons that plagued her have done their job. I'm surprised she made it this far. She was a talented musician though she rarely played an instrument on stage, and a good songwriter. Her voice was unique and reminded me of another jazz vocalist Anita O'Day.

Sometimes success can be the worst thing to happen to someone who is not prepared for, or equipped to handle it. 27 is much too young to die but she lived decades of self destruction in the few short years of her success. Unfortunately the media made her life struggles fodder for their enternainment news and probably helped drive her to escape the reality of her life in drugs and alcohol. Now the media will attempt to atone for their invasive scrutiny by creating a public icon mourned by fans whose legend will be promoted for years to come. The sad thing is Amy probably just wanted to make music and entertain others. Now maybe what she left behind will....

You'd really need to know more about her personality and psychological makeup before you could come to a 'devil made me do it' conclusion. As the news came across the TV screen this morning, "Why am I not surprised"! was my vocal response. I own that Strat Pack video and I was not impressed by any innocence of image radiating from her. It seemed to me then, as now, that it was all in there, just waiting to wreak havoc. And so it has.
