What the heck is this 'North' wales and 'South' Wales thing. Wales is the size of a shoebox...not big enough to have a north and south anything.

I have a friend who plays guitar from south Wales and a hiking buddy from north Wales. Their accents sound identical to me. They are both nice guys but they hate eachother. Why? No idea except they are 'suppose to'.

^Heh the accents over here change so quickly, as in the village 5 miles down the road will talk differently to my town. But I guess for outsiders it can be harder to distinguish.

I live in a Village called Billinge.
A few miles to the south there is St. Helens, and a few miles to the north there is Wigan.
Their accents are very different.
Then you have Liverpool, 12 miles to the west. Very different.
To an American(?) they would possibly sound the same.
To some English all Americans, and Canadians, sound the same.

The Welsh can be a bit strange with each other, but have a common hatred, the English.

We live in different worlds

I have a ranch near a town called Longview....the nearest town to the south is 120kms to Pincher Creek ...the nearest town to the north is Black Diamond....to the West it's perhaps 150kms or so to the town of Radium Hot Springs 'if there was a way over the Rockies'. (350kms by road to get there)

We all have the same accent....called 'mongrel' because hardly anybody is originally from here.

There's a 'Liverpool' in Canada to the east of us....only 5,500 kms east. They 'do' have a different accent. Liverpool. Nova Scotia is a lot closer to Liverpool,UK than to us.

British is always interesting. But I'd have to say that nothing is sexier than a girl with an American southern drawl

One of my favorite US accents is the modern Southern Belle on crack or crystal meth.

I love the true Cockney accent with its wonderful rhyming slang. As I mentioned in an earlier post a lot of our dialects in Newfoundland are almost identical to accents from parts of the British Isles and towns as little as 3 miles apart can have very different accents. One glaring example is that of Grand Bank and Fortune 2 towns only 3 miles apart yet with vastly different accents.

Check out Flight of the Conchords- New Zealand's fourth most popular folk parody duo.
