First of all don't get me wrong I love my Fender guitars, heck I love all my guitars that are in my stable. BUT! ------Yesterday I pulled the trigger on a new guitar that I never got the chance to even put my hands on and yes bought it on line site-unseen,never,NEVER in my life did I think I would do that.
Now I am very glad I did it,because this very brand new guitar blows anything in my stable out the door. What is it you ask?
It's a 2011 VOS of a 1954 Les Paul Custom with a bigsby and I have to say that the combo of the Alnico5 and p90 is a sound that I have longed for all these many years and can't get over it.So much so I can't play any more for the next few days because my fingers are raw from not being able to put (BABY) it down.
Please don't take this as a brag it is just that the sound from this guitar for me is just so one of I kind that it has made very happy and have to share it with all my friends here on the fender lounge page.
If anyone out there has one of these then I know you share in what I am talking about first hand.

P.S. For all that may want to know .Yes I am healing even thought it is slow going, but I am doing great and everyday it gets better even if my recovery is making every doctor scratch their head at my local V.A.
Later !

Nevin-That is a decent weight for that guitar + Bigsby.

They don't make many of them every year. I would be willing to bet the serial number is under 200. Maybe even under 100.

To be sure it is under 40 but just more than 30  just! 8)
Plus fyi it was the only one in stock and just after they put my name on it for hold another person put in his order for one-I'm glad my check cleared the bank in time or who knows how long I would have to wait because I was told that the custom shop is trying to fill back orders on the 58's

Nervin - Mine 59 CS LP is from 2008.

The 58's are very hot for gibson from what I understand and I don't think you made a bad choice at all getting one. They are a great looking guitar and they are humping to keep up with the demand for them.
It seems to me that in the last couple of years (2006 and on) everybody has stepped up their game when it comes to putting out some great guitars custom shop made or not,but you better have some deep pockets now days just to get any kind of guitar.I guess that's just GOD's way to thin out the herd ! :?

Very nice looking guitar. I was wondering, is there any relationship between the P90 pu in your baby and the Seymour Duncan SP-90 Vintage pups that come in the Jim Adkins JA-90 Telecaster?

I think the rest of the bunch has pretty much said it all. So in the immortal words of Buddy Hollie. "PLAY IT LIKE YOU STOLD IT" :) Nice score. 8)

That one I really am not to sure of there are some other p90's from fender that I have heard or played, but they all have sounded more bright than what is on Baby Her's have a more round mid bottom to it and not overly bright just the right amount to cut but not annoy. Now for the alnico5 I have never heard anything like it unless you count many of the old cut's when Les Paul was cutting his stuff with Mary Ford it has more of a fuller range from what the p90 has and it is a much hotter pu.It really can push a tube amp to compress to the point of a spit (if you want) then go to a real sweet mellow ,clear, robust rich sound with enough bottom playing clean for the ballads and the like(I use my thumb to wrap around my top two strings sometimes)to drive a bass player nuts if you care to
