I honestly can't remember the last time I broke a string - years and years and years, probably back when I was in my teens or 20s. Now that I am older and wiser, I can't remember the last time I didn't have at least 10 extra sets of strings on hand. Right now I'd bet that I have a good 20 sets in the cupboards here in the Music Room - DRs, D'Addarios, Fenders, even some Floyd Rose SpeedLoaders.

Even good strings are cheap!

Lotta guitars - lotta strings. I usually swap strings on six guitars at a time... well, not all at once, one after the other.

when a strings broke, i like the idea of de tuning the rest and just beating the $@!& out of em so they make all these really sweet sounds with full distortion, until they all break.

What I do when I break a string:

1. Play another guitar, this is the reason for a #2
2. Go ahead and play it just to see just what you can do with the guitar without the string.
3. Take the opportunity to take all the other strings off and look under the hood, clean out dust, put a real good coat polish on it and buff it to a high shine, ect...
4. Pull out a set of strings and re-string my axe, I always have 2 sets of strings handy
5. Watch a movie or TV show while putting on new strings

Darn...I could only come up with 5 things to do while a string is broke.

Honestly I cannot remember the last time I broke a string. It must have been late 80's or early 90's.

Recently I broke a brand new B string on my electric during tuning and am awaiting my new set. So what do I do? What are the top then things you do while you wait for new strings?

Thanks for sharing NC. So, what you are doing can be a productive waiting activity. I haven't ever waited for strings. Lucky break, so far.
