It's great to see the lists of peoples collections...

but what about the ones that got away...

that guitar that was "just gathering dust" just "taking up space"

the guitar that you would kill to have back......

I'll start...

I had two...

1968 Hofner Beatle Bass (original owner) sold it for $100 in '71.. what did i need it for I had.....
1970 Dan Armstrong Fretless (original owner)

traded this for my 73 P bass.....

I doubt if I will sell any of what I have now..

There have been a few that I thought I did not bond with that I should have kept around.

Burns Brain MAy
Rickenbacker 370/12
Gibson SG
Squier Strat
Gretsch Duo Jet

3 Color Burst '75 Strat - DiMarzio HS3 PU's, Gotoh Machine Heads, Floyd Rose Locking Trem. The action was low and perfect for me.

Stolen in 1989 along with about $2000.00 in gear. I would slice off my left testicle to have all that back.

There were ones I never had (that I wish I had).

The only ones that I wish I still had were Univoxes: a black Les Paul copy which was my first "decent" guitar and a Les Paul Jr copy that roared.

When I was 15 I sold my grandfathers 59 Les Paul to my Uncle. I didn't play guitar at the time and I desperately needed the money. If only.

This one got away from me...

About three or four years ago I went into guitar center and played this SRV strat every day. It was the first strat that had ever really "clicked" for me. I, still being pretty young, had only my savings to depend on to buy it, and I was about to drop almost all of it on this strat. I went into the store the day of the decision, and the guys at Guitar Center stared at me blank-faced when I asked about the SRV. No one knew what I was talking about until the floor manager told me it was stolen the day before. HOW do you rob guitar center? Apparently it was before they had that serious security at the door, so he came in with either an empty case, or a case with a crappy strat, tried out the SRV like he wanted to buy it, and then slipped it into his case and ran off when no one was looking.

To this day I'm convinced my mom told them to plot this whole thing so I wouldn't drop all my savings on the strat, because there was no stopping me. A few weeks later she mysteriously got me a pretty nice acoustic for my birthday. It was a conspiracy against rock and roll....

I made a trade years ago that my buddy doesn't let me forget to this day. I traded my black 1968 Les Paul Custom that had more gold on it than Mr. T for a Boss chorus pedal, a Tom Scholz Rockman and a crappy old Gibson solid state amp. For some reason it seemed like a good idea at the time. He still has the LP and I get to play it and cry from time to time. I still have the Boss chorus.

Another "What was I thinking" at the time:

Two 1976 Gibson Les Paul Customs. One was white and the other was ebony.
