Buggs Henderson, awesome Texas Blues Rocker. Joe Walsh I don't think is given due credit. I think he came up with some great stuff, the Hotel California guitar is awesome. Kerry Livegrin from Kansas great guitarist and Keyboardist. Gary Phil currently with Boston did some awesome work with Sammy Hagar in the 80's and while I'm at it Hagar has never been given his due credit as a very accomplished guitar player. I mean the guy played guitar on stage with Eddie Van Halen.

I'm going to say Vito Bratta of White Lion. I don't think he is necessarily under appreciated in terms of the guitar community, but i think because he was a member of an 80s "Hair Band" he goes a little un-noticed. But he is one of my favorites. Great tone. Great melodies. And just blissful clean playing.

The Jesus Lizard to this day remains severely underrated, chiefly because their last 2 albums, quite frankly, sucked $@!, and because mainstream music listeners generally don't take too kindly to viciously retarded, drunken, shouted vocals (Which is one of the best aspects of the band IMO).

By That logic I could say Nirvana is underrated because everyone only knows Smells Like Teen Spirit.......

+1...Exceptional guitar player! When I was a young'n just learning to play guitar, I was given a tape with a bunch of different guitarists on it by one of my mom's friends. There was a Phil Keaggy track on it that blew my mind. I don't recall the name of the song but now I've got to go look it up.

Edit...here we are...overall this isn't my favorite style of music; but hearing the guitar playing in this song was intense when I was 8 and pounding out a G chord over and over again.

But the thread is about under appreciated band, which Nirvana are in the sense that people only know one of their songs.

Captain, you and I are on the same page.

For you, and for everyone on this board who appreciates incredible Stratocaster guitar artistry, check out a Los Angeles guitarist/writer/singer/producer/engineer named Alan Mirikitani. He is better known as BB Chung King of the band The Buddaheads (when they came out in 1994 they were called BB Chung King and the Screaming Buddaheads).
