For the first years he used a Morley volume pedal, but later he changed to a model by Ernie Ball

Though frankly, if ever there was a case of the brand not mattering in a quest for tone it would be with volume pedals. I so strongly doubt it matters which one you use, if recreating Knopfler's sound is the object of the exercise.

For instance, on different occasions I've seen him do his volume swells with a pedal or with his pinky on the guitar's volume knob. If ever there was a player where the gear is not the key to the sound it is Mark Knopfler...
