I plan on picking up a BOSS SD-1 Super Overdrive. I played through a lot of different overdrive pedals, and to my ears, nothing came close to the SD-1.

I have the Boss SD-1 myself. While it's not true bypass, you'd be hard pressed to find a better sounding pedal for the money. Actually I think it's the best sounding overdrive in it's price range. Still around $50 I think.

what kind of amp do you have and what style of music do you want to play?

I will be playing it through a Fender Reissue Deluxe Re verb 22W 1-12 Jensen, speaker. tube amp. :) Mostly Blues, Some Country and a little early Guitar twanging and serf. :)
----Danny,

If you're playing Blues you'll need some kind of distortion pedal. Classic choices for Blues are the Ibanez TS-9 Tube Screamer and BOSS Blues Driver, certainly there are others.

Be careful! You are embarking on a dangerous journey (dangerous to your disposable income). Once you see what these little toys do to your sound you'll want more of them. Check out the demo videos on You Tube. I'm up to 17 pedals including a multi-effects unit. I'm sure others have many more than I have . . . but I'm not done buying yet.

IMHO, ignore the true bypass hype. Snake Oil Salemen, Brothers-in-law, Caveat Emptor and just general BS is my opinion about that highly touted feature.

I respect your opinion but I have to disagree. I can tell a difference in tone/sound straight into the amp compared to running through pedals. Most noticeable playing clean. The less my pedals color my "Natural" sound when off the better.

I agree true bypass is helpful if you're running only one or two pedals...however, after reading the following article, some of my initial misgivings were confirmed:

If Pete says it, I've gotta take notice...

Thanks for being polite about it; I've seen this particular discussion get pretty heated, and overall it doesn't mean a hill of beans. Both theories work.

Armadillo,

That was a good read thanks for the link. Although I didn't fully understand everything he said I got the basic gist of his point. Very interesting and Pete definitely knows more about pedals than I. I'd love to try out some of his pedals but man they are not cheap.
