In what order did Jimi have his pedals at his Woodstock performance?

Hey great question. I want to know myself. Let me take a guess. Strat > wah >univibe >octavio >fuzz face >marshall amps.

Am I correct....anyone?

I'm pretty sure the Fuzz face was first, then the wah, I'm not too sure after that. I have to look at the Hendrix at Woodstock performance video.

I noticed that about Woodstock,it seems like Jimi used to set the wah and fuzz as the mood suited him as more often than not he put the fuzz first but the Uni-Vibe was always at the end of the chain.Strangely enough I can replicate the tone of the wah on Star Spangled Banner pretty well by having the fuzz first and I do believe that was Jimi's usual set up. I have always found that you get a better tonal response from your wah by having the fuzz first.I'll have to try doing the wah first just to see if it makes that much of a difference.

What vibe pedal would your recommend? I've heard many hendrix influenced guitar players speak highly of the voodoo lab micro vibe. I have the BBE Soul Vibe and the Danelectro Chicken Salad, but still looking to get a very good vibe pedal for the money. What do you think of the lovepedal pickle vibe?

I've been experimenting with vibe placement on my pedalboard, and I found the vibe pedals to sound much smoother before the dirt pedals. I guess it all depends on preference and what sound you are going for.

Would you happen to have a video?

Here is my vibe pedal setup. This one is with vibe after the dirt pedals.

Corrently I'm using the Danelectro Cool Cat Vibe and Chorus pedals for an approximation of the Uni-Vibe tone, they're not great but quite adequate for the price and are as good as you're going to get in that price range. The closest I have heard to really nailing the tone of the original are the Vox/Korg Tonelab pedals and the Uni Vibe features in their Valvetronix amps, their effects are just like the originals as they ramp up and down gradually in speed just like the real thing.

Hmmmm....I think you have mentioned the tonelab before. I need to look into that. Vox came out with an updated tonelab. Are you referring to the older tonelab that sold for $199?

BTW..would you happen to have a demo? Kinda interested on the vibe tone you are getting with that cool cat vibe. How is it compared to the chicken salad?

Well before I added my chorus pedal to the mix, my DS-1 kinda had this exaggerated effect on the wah which was cool, but for some reason my chorus pedal did something to it so i just started putting my wah first.

The Univibe had an optional speed control pedal that looked like a wah that hooked up to the main unit.It worked like a wah but as you depressed the peadl the modulation speeded up.I'm not sure if that was refered to as the Rotovibe. If you look closely at Woodstock footage you can see Jimi reaching over with his left foot frequently to engage it and change speeds.

The Cool Cat Vibe can go from subtle in modulation intensity to very warbley and at slower speeds sounds like a cross between a Leslie and a Univibe.I'm not familiar with the Chicken Salad so I can't give you a comparison. The older Tonelab models had a very convincing Univibe and Leslie effect as did the blue grill cloth Vox AD series Valvetronix amps like the AD 120 VTH etc.

I've seen tons of photos the other way around. Like guitslinger I think it just depended on what he was after. Remember, effects were new back then and Hendrix constantly switched things around. The Wah first is pretty cool too. I switch back and forth on the rare occasions I even use one.
The Fulltone Deja Vibe 2 is by far the best Univibe clones I've ever heard. Pricy but well worth it.

The Rotovibe is listed as used by Hendrix on Dunlops wbsite, interesting, but then again Jimi messed around with anything and everything he could get his hands on, I mean he had a rotating speaker for god-sake

Setting 4 on the Boss RT20 is a pretty decent Uni-Vibe copy.

The Roto-vibe is ok. The current Dunlop UV-1 Uni-Vibe isn't too shabby at all.

I like the foot pedal on the Fulltone. Reminds me of the original. The light show on the Boss RT20 is pretty cool. A friend of mine does some pretty nice Trower covers with his.
