It is indeed ironic that it 42 years to the day from man stepping foot in the moon and last space shuttle landed.

42 THE Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything (Douglas Adams)

America has lost her way .... the new frontier is there for the taking. It is ironic that the next person to stand on the moon, will be paid for by the American tax payer servicing USAs debt to the Chinese Government.

It was a Sunday night. I was with friends at the Holiday Ballroom (now a CTA Blue Line Station), in between sets we would go into the lobby to watch the landing on the televisions there. Space travel is only one of the USAs contributions to the development of mankind, but an important one nonetheless. I cannot understand why our current Federal Government despises us so as to give away our future in space travel and especially deep space travel.

People are bodies that can think, that can communicate, that are rational, that can plan, that can feel things, that can be creative, and so forth and so on.

Unfortunately the USA Empire is in decline, following the path of the British and Roman Empires.
The landings were real, the 'conspirators' couldn't have included their allies, never mind the Soviets and Chinese in a scam.

The USA Space program WAS real. Do you really think they would have killed all those astronauts FAKING things? Maybe the footage shown on TV was staged in the event the live TV didn't work.

We now have NO space program and hitch rides from the Russians. So, in view of that who really won the race for extraterrestrial superiority?

I suppose the person who posed the question earlier about the power issue being how they knew it was fake never heard of a hydrogen-oxygen fuel cell. An Apollo spacecraft carried three hydrogen-oxygen fuel cells in the service module. Each unit contains 31 individual fuel cells connected in series and operates at 27 to 31 volts. Normal power output is 563 to 1420 watts, with a maximum of 2300 watts per fuel cell. Primary construction materials are titanium, stainless steel, and nickel. As long as you have hydrogen and oxygen you can make electricity. Manufacturer: Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Division of United Aircraft Corporation.

In addition to these fuel cells (which blew up on Apollo 13) there are backup battery systems intended for short term use. That is how Apollo 13 got home, backup battery power and a large portion of unbelievable good luck that was really not much less than a miracle. Hydrogen-Oxygen fuel cells were once considered a potential solution for low pollution vehicles may be too much of an explosive hazard do operate safely.

I need to get my Uncle's answer on this since he worked on one of the lunar landing modules at NASA ..it's a good question though.

They had electrical generation on the service module though a hydrogen fuel cell. It catalyzed hydrogen and oxygen to create water and electricity. Apollo 13 had a hydrogen tank blow up and that's why they lost all the electrical systems from the service module.

first up on the google search.

FWIW

Also it's a travesty that we have no manned space program today. I grew up watching walter chroncrite and others host the launches of Mercury, Gemini, Apollo and others though my life. In the word of the Simpson Family: W?F man!

Oh and something like 10,000 employees were fired when the last shuttle landed.

The same thing happened when Apollo ended. When I lived in Cocoa Beach, Fla in 1974 the guy at the Fina station that changed my oil and did other routine maintenance on my 1973 Ford Grand Torino had an engineering masters from MIT hanging on the wall over the work bench. Yep, former rocket scientist.

Here's my thing. With the extreme advances in ALL kinds of technology since the 60's, nobody will ever be able to convince me that anyone has EVER been on the moon. If we could do it then, it would be easy today, and there have been failed attempts since. I don't buy it, never have never will.

Failed attempts? When? Last men set foot on the moon back in Dec. '72 and we haven't had a manned misson there since......

Ask some of the guys who worked for the Russian space program if we landed on the moon and they'll grudgingly tell you that we did, since they followed the telemetry VERY closely (remember they had unmanned probes sitting on the surface too, and were able to tell not only when we landed, but when the men actually stepped on the surface) hoping for a failure of some sort, just so they could say we didn't do it.

I agree that with the advances in technology that it would be easier/faster/better to do it these days, but it's a whole different world these days and that's partially what prevents us from going back....

Thank you Dr Jimmy, my point exactly..
