I am a rhythm player, currently playing an Am. Std. Strat into a Hot Rod Deluxe. I play mostly classic rock, blues, jam bands, etc. My current pedal configuration is:

Tuner
Boss Blues Driver (I couldn't justify keeping the OCD instead)
Digitech Bad Monkey Overdrive
Boss Distortion DS-1
Boss Super Chorus CH-1

What am I missing? I thought about a delay, but seems like it is similar to a Chorus. Maybe a Phaser/Flanger, or EQ?

Thoughts??

A lot of delays can double as chorus pedals as chorus is based on a form of delay plus a slight pitch variation.A good delay can add a great amount of texture and depth to your playing.Check out some of the Electro Harmonix delay and delay/reverb pedals, they are very rugged, dependable and fairly priced.

That little orange box has so many hidden and unexpected uses it's scary.

It's the one pedal I would grab it I were going to be stranded on a desert island.

Get rid of the Blues Driver, get a Big Muff, trade in the Boss Super Chorus for a Chorus Ensemble 5, much cleaner aftertaste, or if your loaded you can get an Electro Harmonix Memory Man Deluxe; not neccesary but if you have the extra money upgrade the DS1 to a ProCo Rat, you can get a nice used one for a relatively cheap amount, I myself use a DS1, and really it just coats your sound, it doesnt push it or add a vibrant punch like the Rat does. But assuming your on a budget or you just love the pedals your already using:

Just look into a Big Muff, an MXR Phase 90 but being realistic unless your like a White Zombie tribute band your not going to using this one every tune so I suggest a used one;, or a CryBaby Wah, you can go Standard, get the Hendrix one which is more Bassy and Classic looking, or the Original Vox Wah.

Agreed! MXR makes a few different models. Get the best you can afford.

I recently bought an amp that has several different types delays, I found out the sound I had been looking for comes from a stereo delay. It just adds the right echoy effect I was looking for. I don't use my chorus much at all any more. Test a few pedals, Memory Man, Boss DD 7, and my favorite MXR delay are a few brands to sample. Some have stereo capabilities and some don't.

Why would you ditch the OCD and keep the Blues driver? Another pedal I've found essential to my board is a compressor. I'm using the Boss CS3.(mostly used as a boost and sustain) It is adequate for my needs but I would probably lean toward a Keeley if I could afford one.

I still have the OCD, but I want to get rid of one overdrive to fund some other pedals. I like the OCD, but not twice as much as the Blues Driver(thinking about resale value).

Also, I have considered a wah pedal many times. I am a rhythm player and I sing lead. I'm honestly not sure I can do all of that while still manipulating a Wah pedal.

+1

And +1 on the Keeley as well.

Of course you can, you're already tapping rhythm with your foot anyway, just do the same on the pedal instead.
