Even Clapton stood in awe of Jimi and had a deep respect and love for him.I read an interview with Clapton years ago where he talked about the last time he saw Jimi.He had been to a music store earlier that day and had seen his first left handed Strat.Upon seeing the Strat he promptly bought it for Jimi brought it to the show to give to him, unfortunately things didn't go as planned and Jimi left promptly after the show and Eric never had the chance to give him the guitar.Jimi died just a few days later.Clapton once said this of Jimi:"Jimi Hendrix was a gift,who was allowed to stay with us for a while and then went back with the other gods."
