So...I pulled out a 'Y' adaptor today and ran the Tele through two amps. I ran the Jet City at full gain and the Peavey Bandit clean with an envelope filter in front of it. I must say, that although I was simply messing around, it sounded great. I also ran both amps sans effects and both with similar overdrive but opposite EQ. Once again, sounded great, and the sound was huge! I was pleasantly surprised; so much so that I may continue running this setup.
So my question is, does anybody here play through two amps simultaneously? If so, what types of setups do you like to play around with and what different things have you done that you didn't expect much from that turned out being awesome?

They say Stevie used to chain as many as 16 amps together in the recording studio of various sizes and models. Possibly one of the reasons everybody wants his tone and can't seem to get very close. (That and they don't have his hands.) I've run as many as four amps together at once and it's definitely got some dynamic to it if you can handle the SPLs. The system you are employing always seems to work best to my ears though. Two amps, one clean and wet with verbs and the other dry and crunchy as all get out.

I use two when I'm running stereo modulation effects. I don't have a stereo Uni-Vibe clone but I can simulate one with two amps and a delay pedal.

I used to play in a really loud band (the other guitarist thought that any knob that said VOLUME was supposed to be dime'd to the max).

Just to be heard, I started playing through my 1972 silverface Bassman Ten and my '63 Reissue Vibroverb chained together. While it sounded great--huge, punchy and rich--the volume would dang near knock you over...six 10" speakers being pushed by a combined 90 Watts directly beside my right ear.

I blame that band, and playing through those two amps simultaneously (as much as anything) for my tinnitus...and it's all my fault. :?

I routinely run 3 amps together and can get some great tones by adjusting the volumes and EQs of each amp just a tad. First I run my guitar and effects direct into my Marshall 4210 then slave it into an Ibanez DM 1000 Digital Delay and send the effects signal into '68 Fender Bassman and a 2-15 cabinet or a Leslie model 16 and the dry signal into a Marshall JCM 800 2204 stack. When my nephew, who is always gigging, heard this set up for the first time he almost hit the floor. With the stereo output of the DM 1000 and the Leslie throwing the sound all over the place you can't tell where all the sound is coming from.Ibanez used to make a fabulous pedal called the Flying Pan that allowed to use 2 amps at the same time but also had a flanger or phase shifter that panned the signal along with the effect and that created an unbelievable effect.I believe that Ibanez had a limited run of just a couple of hundred of the Flying Pans a few years ago,the originals cost hundreds now if you are ever lucky enough to find one.If you think that 2 amps sounds great try sending you signal through 3 amps with a flanger or digital delay slaved out from the first amp.BTW the effect is better with amp No. 1 in the middle.

I used to run two Sunn Scepters and two 4x12 cabs back in the day. We were numb and deaf buy the time the gig was over. The other gut ran a Super Showman and the bass player had some monstrous Ampeg rig. Those were the days of us dumbass kids and cheesy festivals. We had no trouble getting over the drummer. We had some of the lamest PA gear around. All I can say is be careful what you wish for. This is why I chuckle when people say a Blues Jr is fine for gigging. I chuckle when I look at my 20 watt Egnater. We knew no better. The rock clubs were huge and there was plenty of work.

I smile when I see those questions too. In my mind I'm thinking, "Ummm ... gee, does it LOOK big enough? Cuz, like that should be your first clue....."

Of course we don't say things like that with our OUTSIDE voices though, do we?

All the time. I think that's how I get in trouble. Saying stuff out loud then typing it. Those old Sunn 4x12 cabinets were monsters. Built like a house. I think that's why I went to a Twin from the Sunns. To save my back

The first time I saw two amps running together was my bass player in 1966 - used two Ampeg tubers - one on each side of the stage. Best bass I ever had behind me! And I still miss Doug's playing, too!

That's Doug sitting on the front of the stage - one of his amps is in the far left corner.

Holy Crap! 16 amps! I don't think I've had 16 amps over the whole time I've been playing.
