I recently purchaced an old guitar that has a lot of little swirl marks and minor scratches I would like to get rid of. I have cleaned all the grime and crud off. I thought my Fender Guitar Polish would help the swirls, but to no avail. Does anyone have suggestions for getting rid of these swirls? Thanks in advance.

Just make more swirls, man. Have fun with the thing, unless you bought it for resale.

Any idea on what the finish is? I.E. Poly, Nitro...etc. etc. That piece of info could change the answers to this question depending on the finish material.

There are car polishing compounds made specifically to remove "swirl marks". Though they may have abrasives in them and you need to be careful about this, depending on the finish you have.

Here's a post that may be useful:

the finish is poly. I did not buy it for re-sale, just to restore and play the crap out of it (which I have been doing already).

Thanks for the info, I will research the makers of the nut sauce.

Maguire's #7 polish in your local auto dept. will do the trick. we used it to take out minor swirl marks and scratches on poly finish guitars at the music store I used to work at. Try it in a small unobtrusive area to see if you like the results before taking it to the whole guitar.

Take a look at the Virtuoso Clear and Polish sold here: http://www.virtuosopolish.com/
I have seen it work wonders! The last time I ordered some it was about $20 for both the cleaner and the polish.

i have used Mothers hard carnauba wax with some success on swirls depending on how deep they were. It also really makes the surface BEAUTIFUL. i have not used any of the abrasive stuff on the body because i worry about more damage. I use the mothers chrome polish on chrome, that has light abrasives in it.

+1...that would be my suggestion for a poly finish. That stuff works awesome. I just don't know that I'd try it on any delicate finish types.
