I picked up a Behringer CT100 Cable Tester today.

None of us should be without one of these little gadgets:
http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/CT100.aspx

And it was not very expensive.

cool tool :D

i check cables the old fashion way. i pull out my 40 year old radio shack multitester.

put the selector to ohm setting. touch one probe to 1 tip of the cable plug, and the other probe to the tip of the other plug. if the needle moves, you have continuity. do the same with the sleeve, and you will know if the cable is good or not.

anybody else do the same?

+1

I use my Dad's old Simpson 260 in the shop.

I keep an "el cheepo" DVM in my gig bag for field-expedient diagnosis and repair.

last year at an auction, i bought a bin full of cables for 20 bucks- including a few monster

pulled out the multitester, and wound up with about 20 good cables. the rest are sitting around for parts.

i'm set for a while

I have a bag of goodies that I never go to a gig without and a cable tester is in it. Invaluable tool.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
