His sound is so over processed I would not know where to begin explaining that rig.

And yet somehow he (not always but usually) manages to let the sound of the Strat come through. Only Dave has the genius to use that much gear all at once and still sound good.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

+1000

I've done alot of research and have spent my fair share of money to get close.(I'm now only light years away)
The Gilmourish site has loads of good info on getting there, but be prepaired to do alot of tweekin, not many of us can afford a Pete Cornish Board and Hiwatt amps. But keep pluggin away at it, when you do get close you'll be pretty happy. Good Luck to ya.

Gilmour has refined his tone one pedal at a time for the past 4 decades.I imagine what he did was probably buy a load of flangers for instance and experiment with the settings of each one and then add the best one to his board and over the years built it up to what it is today, adding on one pedal at a time.

I've determined it is almost physically impossible for anyone but the man himself. Gilmour has an insane amount of highly specific gear that isn't all in production anymore. Even if you tracked down all that stuff, you'd have to experiment for years to get the right settings. And EVEN THEN in my opinion the majority of the sound you hear is based off of his unreal technique. The man is a guitar genius, to truly replicate his sound it might take several thousand dollars and twenty years!

You can spend all your life buying the same gear Gilmour uses, but tone is 90% in the player's hands; you'll never match his tone. I hate to be that guy, but why waste your time trying to copy someone else's tone instead of finding your own?

Yeah I understand that his godlike chops are unique and that is tone is virtually impossible to achieve...

I'd behappy with 1/100 of his tone so that I can build it over the years.

Because after all I don't want to be another Gilmour (even though it sure would be great) I want to create my own sound and thecniques so that someone else says I want to be like him

It's so good to have a fertile imagination

Couldn't agree more if i tried. My all time favorite player. He could make a ukulele sing like a bird.

Go to www.think-floyd.com. See if you can touch base with the lead guitar players in those tribute bands and see what kind of gear they are using. The player in LI's band Project Floyd seems to have an uncomplicated amp and floor board setup, but does an awesome job.
