After moving and being part of a very damp summer so far I recently did a minor set up on my Strat and I got an unexpected result out of it. Before my truss rod and string height adjustment my guitar had a really strong bass sound from the low E string. It was to the point that it was annoying when I played power chords or hit the string with any aggression. It would distort itself and sound fuzzy. Now after adjusting it my guitar has a far brighter sound. My issue now is that while I don't miss the fuzziness of the old sound I do miss some of the warmness of the old sound. I added the slightest bit of relief to the neck and dropped the strings very slightly. It wasn't a significant amount at all. Can any tech experts explain the cause and effect behind this?

Possibly the pickup height needs adjusting. If too close to the strings the magnetic pull of the pickup will dampen the vibrations of the strings. This can cause harmonics and loss of fundamental tone.

+1

Climatic changes frequently wreak havoc with a guitar's set-up.
