Been having real bad GAS lately for my first Les Paul, but trying to find the right color / model. Trying to keep this cheap so I've looked at the Agile AL 3010 and Epi LP Standard Plain Top.

The Agile so far looks like a much better guitar than the Epi, but it's not a big name and so I don't know too much about it. Does anyone have any experience with the company? A guitar this good normally doesn't cost less than 400 bucks - in fact I'd expect 8 or 900 - so I'm a little hesitant to pull the trigger.

Is it just me or what? Do you have a Fender guitar now? I think I'd stick with a Strat or a Tele. Some Teles are kind of heavy- you could get a heavy Tele and that would kind of remind you of a LP-- maybe. :D

Tele is next on the list, but I'm definitely going for the les paul this round. Trust me, my strat will always be my # 1

I own 2 Epi Les Pauls-a '61 Custom reissue and a Traditional Pro and both are superb guitars. The Custom is 3 humbucker equipped,SG style body,in antique ivory with gold plated hardware and it's very versatile as well as very well made.It can give you screaming metal type leads ,Angus Young crunch or really smooth jazz tones and anything in between.I paid $550 for mine.

The Traditional Pro has got to be one of the best kept secrets in the Epi line because it is by far probably their most versatile guitar for the gigging musician. Not only is it well made and finished but it has coil tapping. In single coil mode it sounds more like a cross between a Jag and a Mustang but still has the single coil spank and sparkle. It's when used in humbucker mode is where it really shines as it sounds just like a PAF Les Paul-the tone that Robert Fripp got on King Crimson's Court of the Crimson King album comes to mind. For just over $500 it's like getting 2 guitars in one and the beauty of it is that you can go from single coil to humbucker mid-song.

Both these guitars are well worth the money and are certainly a way better choice financially than their Gibson counterparts as their quality often exceeds that of Gibson.

I purchased a like new black Agile 2000 for $120 about 6mo ago. Same body as what your looking at, It's a nice guitar, but weighs a ton, much more than a Tele.

Howdy!

I worked on a couple of 7 String Agile guitars and although they both looked the business, the electronics where awful. Poor components, shoddy wiring and soldering. One of them had a duff neck pickup and the replacement was also duff... not good. :?

Be prepared to add the cost of a replacing all the electronic components (pickups, pots, caps, output jack & switches) with decent ones.

Hope this helps

Andy

I'll definitely keep that in mind - but I've heard they're AL 300 series is really good, with at least decent wiring. The 7 string seems like something that they might put out more as a gimmicky type thing and pay less attention to quality on, if that makes sense.

There's a list of everything the goldtop comes with - I believe it's the same specs as the 3000

My AL 3000 Prestige HSBF (3100 series uses real m.o.p. inlays as opposed to real abalone)

This guitar would have cost $2000 if it were built in America !! (it's Korean)

2 pc matched back
3/4 " Canadian Flame maple top
Ebony f/b
Abalone inlays
Body/neck /headstock bound
Absolutely perfect fit & finish
18-1 Super Rotos
nickel hardware & p'up covers
American wiring & electronics
Better p'ups than my 30th Ann Plaintop LP
It came out of the box set-up to perfection, and is one of my favorite players
It IS heavy as he!!....

Edited 'cause I got the model #'s backward, NOW they're correct

Les Paul's are cool, I have a Studio myself. But I wouldn't really do it again personally. It's just too heavy for what it is. I did use it in the studio though.

After buying my used Schecter Tempest recently, I'm pretty much sold on Schecter over a LP or Epi.. The Tempest is just amazing. It feels much nicer to me. It has turned into one of those guitars that I look forward to playing more than any other in my collection at the moment. There's just something about it I can't resist. My opinion of course, but something to think about.

There's nothing wrong with expanding your tonal pallet. I only own one Fender guitar now. My 72 Strat satisfies that hunger. I sold off tons of stuff and now I just kept all the oddballs like my Ibanez Artcore with SD Phat Cat P90's, an original beat up 57 Dano U1, My 63 Supro Martinique, a modified Stinger guitar for slide that I may convert to a cigar box guitar LOL and a handful of cheap acoustics. I'll probably buy a new one soon. I've been thinking about a Epi LP Tribute with the Gibby pups and Switchcraft stuff and Mallory caps. IMO one of the best bargins out there. A Tele will not remind you of a LP. A bolt on neck single coil pup guitar is worlds apart from a set neck bucker guitar. That's the beauty of the Tele.
