So I was in my local music shop and there was a display of these next to the register.

I thought - They ought to put out a fourth product in this line up, RELIC. Basically a polish, but with sand or other abrasive material in it. You know, "RELIC, The More You Use It, The Older It Looks!"

Boy, I probably shouldn't be giving this stuff away for free

Nah .... the best way to relic a guitar is to throw it in the box of your 4x4 with a couple shovelfulls of gravel and some short chunks of scrap steel and hit the trails shouting Yeee Haw!!! as you roost through the whoop-de-doos with a can of beer spilling on your shirt.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

:D I choose to play mine till the cows come home, and maby then play it some more, and if my arms haven't fallen off yet, I'll play it some more. Do that every day for 40 years and it will be a Relic alright.   :D

I prefer the look of a well cared for guitar myself. I play quite of few of my 70s vintage guitars on a regular basis and they still look pretty darned good, like they're a few years old rather than going on 40.

It must have been all those beatings I got from my father to remind me to take care of my stuff... :x

My old first electric that I got for Christmas in 1967 has yet to get a scratch or ding despite years of playing and even gigging in the early years. The same goes for the Harmony Archtone that I got or Christmas in 1966.I even have Dinky,Corgi and Matchbox cars from earlier than that in excellent condition. My father was a very skilled woodworker as his family's busines was building boats and dorys for the schooners that fished the Grand Banks as a matter of fact they were from Grand Bank.As with any craftsman my father passed on his knowledge to me at a very young age and one thing he taught me was to repect the property of others and take care of your own tools as well. So that's a big part of the reason I see no point in relicing and take the utmost in care of everything I own.
