Young Grasshopper, nice to see you put some thought into this. Remember something some of the Japanese car manufacturers built factories here and supply jobs to American workers. Both sides of the political fence pretty sneaky and great at pointing fingers at each other. Until both sides can work together instead of sabotaging each others efforts, no solution will be found. The Republicans are just as guilty as the Democrats. As far back as I can remember, the Republicans were never supportive of the blue collar working man. The Democrats want to give away the farm, there's no balance.

I've been hired to photograph private political events and have overheard some things that would blow your mind from both sides of the political fence. I did an event for a company that was in involved missile defense systems that was doing a fundraiser for one of our congressmen to try to get him to use their services. I was hired by a lobbyist who was working for this private company. Luckily the guy didn't reelected but I had a real hard time getting paid for my services which in my field is true of most politicians and lawyers. Politics is a huge business. That's why I'm a Libertarian. I did another event for a senator who was trying push for social security reform but owned a business that would benefit immensely from it. They paid me well for the photographs on time too which is rare. I'm not bashing one side or another. The important thing is to vote and vote wisely and do your own research. Don't fall for some of the ads.

Strat0Blues, thank you for being interested in coming to the USA. I've read through the posts and the good news is you can move to America have a good life and prosper as long as you keep a realistic perspective. A good work ethic, a willingness to save for your future, adaptability to change are the same where ever you live in the world. In the USA just as in all other places there are rewards for what you think and do. The right things you do for you and your family are rewarded rightly, by that I mean you will grow and prosper as a good citizen. This is the big one "stupidity has it's own rewards". Those are rewards that you don't want. Once you move here you will see evidence of both choices and everything in between. Choose to do the right things and you will be fine. The Chicagoland area is a good place to start as we have a good size fresh water lake, so, no problems with water. North Carolina and Georgia are beautiful states and have many attributes you might appreciate. But don't take my word alone, look around and see what interests you. Ask questions. The US Embassy in your country might be able to answer some of them. The internet will be useful too. If you plan ahead perhaps we will gain a new citizen and when ever you get here give me call and I will show you some of Chicago if you like.

If you come for a visit be sure to scout out the area of Mississippi from Yazoo up to Memphis Tennessee. (The Delta) Its the birthplace and cradle of the Blues. Let me know when your coming and I woud be glad to buy you a good meal.

it's a wonderful country with tons of opportunities, but you have to have a strong work ethic. Don't expect the government to help/bail you out. Study hard, work harder and you will reap the benefits of our fine nation. I do think it's a little funny that one of your reasons for relocating is the TV...

:?: :?: That's the problem, the government bails everyone out no matter where you're from and the working slobs like me pay for it.

Exactly right!

Of course it was not always that way. Before, one of the main reasons people came here was to get away from social and government oppression. Freedom was defined by personal autonomy. Personal autonomy carried with it the need for personal responsibility. Life carries with it the risk of failure and misfortune. People accepted this as part of life, and part of the price of freedom. You work and provide for your own. Live honestly and work hard and live free. If things go bad you start over.

The "new enlightened" version of freedom is: freedom from the possibility of risk, misfortune and pain. The government assumes all power and wealth, and is here to redistribute equality and justice according with the current zietgiest. Now if you live irresponsibly, if you engage in risky behavior, don't worry, this government program will absorb the problem.

This is a problem with all of the former "western democracies". The populations have slowly relenquished their freedom to the "state" in exchange for "security" the state assumes all power and becomes "all". It's all rather Soviet, or sometimes I think the west is reverting back to a quasi-royalist system. The Lords now, are not established by their ability to fight and protect their serfs/subjects, the new Lordship is established by political talent. Although the U.S is not quite as far along as Europe in this transition we are well on the road. People get the governments they deserve. "If you are willing to sacrifice freedom for security you deserve neither" That is a loose quote from Ben Franklin.

We have our problems, every nation and generation faces them, but it's still a great place to live.

No doubt. I think the rest of the Benjamin Franklin quote is, "People willing to trade their freedom for temporary security deserve neither and will lose both." Pretty deep thinking. I don't think everything's a mess just because of the current administration. It just snowballed from decades of corruption and the "We the Sheeple" syndrome. Tax breaks to big industry doesn't work to create jobs here at home. It just allows big industry to make more profit from the taxpayers and creates jobs overseas. They get some pretty hefty tax breaks now and manufacturing is pretty slim where I live. Way back we didn't need a college education because we could support a family doing factory work. I made a great living as a machinist until the early 80's when our jobs went down south for cheaper labor and taxes. It's a shame. A real shame.
Now you need a college education to land a job that pays twenty five grand a year.

Agreed.

As much as I dislike the current administration, the prior ones have some pretty horrible records. I will leave it at that.

It's still a great place and not too late to turn back on some errors.
